A major reason why XBox 360 is still a hot video game system even though the Sony PS3 has superior hardware, and the Nintendo Wii is kid friendly is XBox Live. This is the number one online video game community where people from around the world can trash talk each other and get immersed in another world via the xbox headset. This is something that was a technical dream decades ago that has become a reality for gamers.
Ninja Gaiden for the 8-bit original Nintendo Entertainment System was one of the most popular games in my Brooklyn neighborhood in 1989 and was still played by myself and friends into the 1990′s. Ninja Gaiden was clearly a copy of the arcade game Shinobi, but no one cared or even knew about it. (Only when Shinobi was released by Sega for the Master System were they compared).
Tecmo, the company that produced it, really outdid themselves. In fact Tecmo was one of the best third party developers for the NES, which says a lot. The anime cut scenes were revolutionary for 8-bit, but more importantly the character Ryu Hayabusa actually jumped around like a ninja, clung to walls, and had quite a few weapons and ninja tricks under his sleeve, making him one of the most versatile characters of the NES era [as opposed to characters that just walked straight].
Ninja Gaiden is one of the best NES games of all time, and may be in the Top 10 or Top 25 NES games ever due to its innovation, storyline, and soundtrack. Yes, the Ninja Gaiden background music is fantastic, and is in the same class as the CastleVania, Mega Man, and Dragon Warrior series.
Ninja Gaiden is an old school hardcore NES game (read: DIFFICULT). The enemies are cheap, the jumps are sick, and if you scroll away and come back they will regenerate (a limitation of virtual memory). Ninja Gaiden is so hard that when I first played it and died 35 times one afternoon, I ripped up the box, threw the controller, and banged my desk multiple times. I then continued on while saying sarcastic things after I died, such as, “Good” and “Oops! OK, lemme try again.”
In other words, the gameplay is actually very advanced for an NES game when compared to Super Mario Bros, although it is borderline horrible because sometimes Ryu gets stuck on the walls or can’t climb up the stairs. The frustrating gameplay has inspired a few YouTube gaming nerds to create mock videos.
Anyway, today’s generation of video game fans are well aware of the PlayStation and XBox versions of Ninja Gaiden.
And now a special video game message from new DailySkew contributor (and former classmate) Vladimir Volkoff: Video gaming has evolved into one of the greatest of all time forms of recreation for folk of all ages. Kids play Nintendo games, and adults do. The Xbox 360 is one of the most popular games for people who want to have a large selection of games available, and who like to play with others live all over the world. I found a great deal here for Modern Warfare. Let me tell you something- as far as I am concerned the Modern Warfare games are the best Xbox 360 games of all time.
For Christmas 2010, there is a grouping of the XBox 360 games that people are waiting anxiously. Kids and adults love to play the DJ Hero game for the Xbox 360. Have a battle of the DJs in your own home or online with turntables and a Guitar Hero controller. You get a turntable and mixer controller to your DJ Hero game – let them scratch and mix to a variety of music content – you can use the genre that is suitable to choose the most ideal. Multi-player modes include DJ vs DJ, DJ and guitar, or DJ and DJ.
New versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is high on the stocks of the Xbox 360 gamers everywhere. This game for mature players bring war to this day with updated cars and weapons, as well as new locations. Several multi-player mode add to the excitement, where method and talent are absolutely vital. DragonAge: Origins is a new and high demand in single-player role-playing fantasy game players can decide to travel the country Ferelden the fate of the country, and ultimately the player him or her. The players have a lot of character customization options, appearance, abilities, race, class and equipment.
For Xbox players, which with the challenge of zombies, which is like two Left4Dead the latest Xbox 360 video game that a “must-have can. Player performance, the degree of adaptation to the enemy, effects and even music. Levels weather and lighting can even individually add to the excitement. request some cool zombie fighting weapon? try the new melee weapons – chainsaws, baseball bats, frying pan and ax. This you can close and private with the undead that are on your way. If an Xbox 360 gamer on your Christmas gift list, try one of these big games – each is an exciting, fun and maybe even the occasional chill!
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl review- there’s a reason why it took me around 6-7 years to see Pirates of the Caribbean. First off, I’m not a Disney fanatic. Secondly, a movie based on an amusement park ride sounds weird. Thirdly, I tend to shy away from blockbuster movies that all of my office workers gush about. Fourthly, I’m not a pirates fan from old Hollywood movies.
So you’ll excuse me if I tell you I was fighting myself to stay awake during this 3:32 hour film (is that right? That’s what Rotten Tomatoes says.) Okay, sure Johnny Depp had an outstanding performance as Jack Sparrow. However, I don’t like the Jack Sparrow character; he’s a rogue- how original.
The story itself switches from action to comedy to fantasy a lot. It never comes close to being an epic movie or a classic. But Jack Sparrow and the Pirates of the Caribbean sure have a large following.
I’d be hard-pressed to find some good things about Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. I liked the monkey. I wonder if he was the same monkey from Raiders of the Lost Ark. They all look alike, you know. Is that a racist statement? I hope not. Seriously, that monkey was a great actor just like the one from Indiana Jones.
Anyway, I shan’t be viewing Pirates of the Caribbean 2 or 3. Or 4, 5, or 6.
Pirates of the Caribbean is overrated. There I typed it. I put it out there. I’d call it a popcorn movie, but they have BRITISH ACCENTS, and the only British accents I can understand are from Star Wars: A New Hope.
Thank Odin I didn’t suggest this movie to watch; my wife picked it out, so it’s on her, not me. During the movie she said “No wonder Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 78%”.

My History of Video Games, Part 2
See Part 1
Continuing my favorite video game song articles, as great as I thought Nintendo was, when my mom bought my the Sega Genesis in the early 1990′s I was on Cloud Nine. Sega was “cool”. Sega was accepted by my black classmates in NY which also made it THE video game system to own, although I had to wait until I moved to Florida to get it (it was pretty expensive when it first came out).
Anyway, the Genesis actually came with stereo headphones, which made me believe they were serious about the music soundtracks. Sure enough, Altered Beast was awesome, but Sonic the Hedgehog took side scrolling platform games to the next level. Sonic made move to my ears. Later on when Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic and Knuckles came out, as a lonely teenager I recall locking my bedroom door and blasting the Sonic the Hedgehog soundtracks thanks to the soundtests when other kids were blasting Rage Against the Machine or Nirvana.
I was into Yuko Koshiro’s Shinobi, so when I saw his name as composer of Streets of Rage, I had high expectations. Little did I know how my heart raced when SoR’s background stages were some of the best video game songs of all time.
But my world was never the same when I heard the soundtrack from Streets of Rage 2. To this day, it can be heard in Damian Hospital’s household thanks to MP3′s. Talk about songs that can be played at dance clubs- Yuko Koshiro’s Street of Rage series was the bomb.
Although the Super Nintendo was superior to the Sega Genesis from the technical standpoint, Sega had better background music themes- they were electronic bass and techno. Sega Genesis music represents the good things about the 1990′s to me. I will always hold those songs in my heart and think of the great games that I played. My mom started a new job and her first paycheck was the Genesis.
Here are other Sega Genesis soundtracks that rocked:
Phantasy Star series
Fatal Fury series
Mega Man: Wily Wars
Batman and Robin
Combat Cars (2 Unlimited!!)
Contra Hard Corps
Ecco the Dolphin (especially the last boss- “Welcome to the Machine”)
Earthworm Jim series
Ghouls n Ghosts
Castle of Illusion: Mickey Mouse
