My views on some current events, and how the Media Scale of Importance is skewed:
NY Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner resigns after sexting scandal. I think the media coverage was overblown. I’m going to be writing that a lot in this article. Although the details change daily, from the legal standpoint I don’t think Anthony Weiner did anything that violated his job as an elected official, unless the computer or mobile devices he used were not his. I think he has an embarrassing sexual problem, is a known liar, craigslist scum, and a disgrace to the office, and he actually liked the attention because he smells a money making opportunity in the future from his notoriety. He let it drag on and in politics you pretty much have to resign when you screw up, unless your name is Bill Clinton. Any decent man would have killed himself by now with how he’s making a fool out of his wife with all of his cell phone pics, Twitter junk, and text message affairs. I mean, he’s such a pathetic little man. All of that being said, I don’t truly care about his private life, and he engages in “pretty normal” craigslist activity for married men his age- trust me on that. He was consumed by his hormones- are you any better?
GOP Debates. Ron Paul, who unfortunately is an underdog, has won all of the debates so far, and remains heads and shoulders above well known politicians in terms of morality, ethics, and being consistent with his belief system. Both parties fear him, because he would truly bring real change to this country. Mitt Romney is the de facto GOP nominee, and while I don’t have a major problem with that (although in a fair society, Ron Paul would have the backing and money to get nominated) his microphone work and charisma are to be desired. And for as much as some of you may worship the ground he walks on, he still is a standard flip-flopping forgetful politician, okay? Michele Bachmann is Sarah Palin lite and will always be a second rate Palin, although she is smarter and sharp. Newt Gingrich actually had some good points (he is a prolific author and historian), but he comes off as a relic, and no one really trusts him because he’s part of the Republican Elite and had too many scandals. Herman Cain is this year’s Black Conservative Republican, finally replacing weirdo Alan Keyes. Cain is out of place because he’s just a businessman. I actually like his assertiveness and bluntness but if you thought Obama and Palin aren’t qualified, Cain is even worse than that. I don’t trust him just because he’s an outsider. Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum are both typical obnoxious GOP schlock who will not keep their word on anything. They even look alike. We’re still quite a while before the GOP will get behind a candidate, and even with this country dissatisfied with President Obama’s performance, I’m certain the 2012 election will be close once again (50/50).
Anyway, the Media Scale of Importance is pretty much fine with the coverage. By the way, FOX’s debates > CNN’s debates. Check out YouTube if you missed them. I would prefer if the media would push Ron Paul more and make him into a legit candidate as opposed to a flake, since everything he says is grounded in libertarianism with a strict interpretation of the Constitution, and he’s a fiscal conservative. Paul is an internet icon, just like Chuck Norris. He is a cult favorite, and I think it’s time he gets some mainstream props.
Sarah Palin E-mail. She wrote something about God? I refuse to indulge in this gossip. Overrated headline and coverage. Media scale is off the charts on this non-story of a non-celebrity.
Libya. This is getting ugly, and although I’m generally OK all for dictators being overthrown in theory because they hurt innocent people [and I don't want to be defending dictators], I’m not cool with presidents having undecalred wars with suspect motives. I am glad a few public officials are challenging the legality of the uhm…NATO military action in Libya. All I can say is that the amount of money the US is spending to…err…keep the peace should have been used to help Americans get business loans, personal loans, or jobs. Perhaps if we took care of things at home, we would have the moral obligation to help other countries. But until then…
Casey Anthony trial. So overrated on the Media Scale of Importance. Thousands of kids go missing every day. If this was a black family, it wouldn’t even be on TV.
Vancouver riot. Over the Stanley Cup? Jeez. The violence was horrible and it was more than “a few” people than the government officials and law enforcement are claiming. I saw the videos and photos. It’s so lame that Facebook is helping out more than officials. Vancouver is also known for holding your for hours as you pass through an international flight. Do yourself a favor and stay away from that place. The media was correct to cover this, but needs to come down hard on Vancouver officials more.
