Man, thanks for the great review and info. I love that it could be argued that this movie is targeted at social workers and teachers who practice LaME. On a side-note: I hope to have that indexing turned around in 36 hours at the latest. Lots going on tomorrow. Moving furniture for wood floor dude Grandma hired for us (Christmas gift). […]
Thanks..I always wanted that comment follow-up plugin but always forget about it when I'm online. You'd think WordPress would have put that in their default code by now...How are you checking to see if it really redirects? Check Justin again and try to follow his steps. Brothers too, it seems! What a pain this is. I loved your adaptation of the Hitler vid. I'm getting all my posts fixed up, but it looks like the WP import tool didn't pick up all my reader comments, which is a total drag. As far as the redirects go, I can edit with htaccess easily enough, so I copied the your rewrite code for the archives into htac […]

If there is one thing you do not want to overlook if you are a store owner or retail manager it is attractive point of purchase displays, such as cardboard displays, counter displays, CD displays, DVD displays, and brand promotions. Marketing studies have shown consistently that good point of purchase displays result in last minute sales. Ergo getting good POP displays is something you should be improving.
I wish the Washington big-wigs would understand how difficult for a Florida job search. Based on my sample size of friends in Florida, the only companies that call back from posted resumes are fly-by-nigh insurance companies. It takes a lot of luck and networking to land a job now due to the Great Recession. When it comes to finding steady work in Florida- WHEW!
This was written on October 29, 2008, a DailySkew contributor named Dani. How prophetic was he?
Fear Not!
Do you feel fear after listening to all the negative stuff that is happening around us? How much of this fear is having an affect on your day to day decisions?
Kind of dumb questions right? Well, I do think that fear, to some degree, can be a healthy mechanism that helps us stay away from potential harm, sort of like an alarm. But when we let let it get to much of us, it can be very damaging, specially if it is not justifiable.
So the Big question is, Is Your Fear Real?
Let me explain. I once learn from my physics class that when two equal forces act on something from opposite directions, they pretty much cancel themselves out. In other words, the end result is as if the forces didn’t even matter at all.
Here is an example:
Lots of people today are living with the fear imposed on us by all the negative information about the economy. The reality of it is, that all of us have been affected one way or another by the lack of work, cost of living, etc. And many people are terrified by the fact that house prices have taken a big hit, lots of houses are empty, some neighborhoods look desolated, and so on. However, not to long ago, lots of people were complaining about the rising cost of living, specifically the increasing price of homes. We kept on wondering when we were ever going to afford a house, or how our kids were ever going to afford it. This fear was also real not to long ago. An interesting point here, many of us that fear one side at one issue, are the same people that now fear the opposite side not to long ago.
There are many of these types of examples. If you think back, you may remember something that you used to fear, that turn out to be not so bad after all.
So is fear a real thing, of course it is. The important point is not to ignore our fears, but to identify it and to do something about it. Don’t live a life hiding behind fears. At one point we should face what we fear and do something about it.
When it comes to opposing forces, you need to realize one very important thing, the good that is in you is much greater that the force imposed on you because of what you fear. So if you focus on all the good things you can be doing with your life, fear will have no say in you.
With financial experts saying that the unemployment rate should stay around the same for the next few years, what are good Philadelphia jobs? Based on a quick sampling of PA message boards, it looks like biotech, health, and teachers are wanted in Philadelphia. Of course, with the unions up there you need at least 10 years of experience and a masters to break in. There are a lot of charter and private schools, however.
As soon as the New Year turned 2010, the Asian Free Trade Zone went into effect. China is teaming up with 10 Asian countries (called Asean) to lower tariffs on many different industries. The tariffs will eventually be phased out by 2015. The irony is that China’s tariffs were already low. The heads of state for the 10 Southeastern Asian countries are all optimistic about this free trade agreement. The Association of Southeast Asian countries include Burma, Cambodia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines.
However, anytime China does something I must take pause. China’s new age combination of Communism and Capitalism is a constant threat to the world economy, and this free trade agreement just makes China that much more powerful. In 2010, we may not have the Cold War, but we have economic battles. As the value of the U.S. dollar decreases, Red China’s might increases.
For some reason, economists and global commentators like to leave out the part that Red China engages in human rights violations at a sickening scale, and any civilized country would consider it to be slave labor. A DailySkew poster named Barry Allen has justified this by saying China is still learning how to become industrialized, and it is no different than the U.S. in the late 1800’s, when underage workers worked long hours in New York factories. I say those rationalizations are hogwash.
But back on topic: lower tariffs- and by 2015- no tariffs with China, means that hundreds of billions of dollars will be pumped into China’s Big Brother system.
We can only hope that one day that more exposure to other cultures and technology will loosen the grip of Red China over Chinese citizens, and they can be paid a fair wage. Until then, thanks to the Great WalMart of China, the balance of economic power continues to shift. Let’s face it- this all started with President Richard Nixon seeing the benefit of the U.S. being allowed to trade and set up businesses in China. But it has resulted in the exploitation of Chinese citizens plus the whole outsourcing trend that increases our unemployment rate and adds pressure to struggling businesses all around the world.
Some members of Asean have horrible and corrupt economies. They are capitalist democracies that are run by corrupt politicians who take advantage of the workers by keeping wages low and creating all sorts of fees to run a business. Unemployment is high and actually accepted as a natural state. Many are forced into prostitution or drugs. The Western model has not been successfully duplicated there. In my opinion, small businesses and manufacturers from these countries will get hurt as Asean corporations and government will trade with China more.
Ben Bernanke. Who? Oh yeah, that guy. The Chairman of the Federal Reserve. But wait, why does Ben Bernanke get Time Person of the Year if we are amidst a recession, high unemployment rate, and a large debt? Considering that Richard Nixon is a two-time Time Man of the Year award winner, along with Adolf Hitler and Stalin, and “You”- the 2006 Person of the Year, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.
Look, Time Man of the Year (changed to Person of the Year) has always been a scam just to get people to buy the Time Person of the Year issue, okay? It’s not even an award. It’s more of a “most influential” designation. In terms of validity or meaning something, however, it’s right up there with Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s “Wrestler of the Year” award- it doesn’t have any meaning.
Here’s a November 2008 comment from Dailyskew chief economist Tony Vahl:
I never thought we would see the day that the U.S. would repeat the same mistakes as our South American counterparts. Ben Bernanke, a PROFESSOR by trade, should have more sense than this.
Sure, he claims that the treasury bonds we issue balances out the increase of currency.
It’s still a gigantic gamble.
One reason I don’t see Bernanke being the most influential person is because he and HENRY PAULSON, former Secretary of Treasury, were the TAG TEAM that started this bailout madness towards the end of 2008 (President Bush was simply a lame duck wooden dummy who read a piece of paper.)
But seriously, Time Man of the Year has always been a joke. Anyone who seriously gets angry debating Time’s selections is a mark or rube.
So who would I pick for 2009 Person of the Year?
1. Iran Protesters (yeah, remember them?) Their historical protest of a rigged election touched everyone’s heart, although it also showed that you can’t overthrow an oppressive government with Twitter. 2. Somali Pirates – Well they STILL rule the seas and the world powers shrug. 3. Al Gore- As THE figurehead, fundraiser, and honorary lobbyist for the world to go GREEN and for us to worship Mother Earth, saw many of the Green Movement’s policies go into effect. 4- Usain Bolt- When it doubt, give Person of the Year to an Olympic athlete that crushes old records. Don’t know how influential he is, though, if you think too hard about it. I guess Time is inconsistent and does present Person of the Year as an award sometimes.
My personal pick is Mariano Rivera- Revealed to be the only living athlete who doesn’t cheat on his wife, doesn’t take HGH/steroids/B-12 shots, doesn’t cheat in the game, doesn’t gamble on the game, is MEDIA friendly, has been the best at his position for the last 13 years, and had yet another super season in 2009 at age 39, resulting in the New York Yankees World Championship.
Western Governor University is making news headlines for being a fully accredited online university with insanely low tuition fees. The fees are low because this is a non-profit university. Basically, WGU is one of the first online universities to be approved by the U.S. Department of Education to offer federal financial aid. Because of the more affordable tuition, WGU students are able to graduate without large school loans to repay – one of the issues that is resulting in people getting bogged down into debt for their entire lives. We are talking about flat rate tuition for 6-month terms, with financial aid or loans available to get your online business degree.
From Tony Vahl: “After having the misfortune of listening to Hannity while fueling my vehicle (he ripped some marketing guy who was jobless and looking for work, exhorting him to spend 60-70 hours a week looking for work, and take a job waiting tables if necessary; I felt like saying, “Thanks, dad,” after listening to this out-of-touch Zig Ziglar-style rant), I decided to see if I could find a random book at the library to read.”
Facts for FOXNews’ Sean Hannity:
1) Three weeks ago…someone I know… submitted her resume to 300 job listings from EmployFlorida.com, Monster.com, and Careerbuilders.com. She took my advice to just spam the world and apply to anything and everything (because I know many people that limit themselves in terms of not submitting a resume because of reading too much into the job requirements.) The resume was fine, as is her education background and experience in terms of finding a decent job. The only responses she received back were from commission-based cold call centers selling insurance. The only call she received was from a marketing cult that sells door-to-door securities and insurance policies. It takes months to find something good, and “60-70 hours” is old-school thinking where you check the newspaper for jobs and go door-to-door. To quote Black-Eyed Peas: “You so 2000 and late.”
2) Waiting tables? Sorry, Mr. Sean Hannity- the Chinese restaurant across the street rejected this person and wouldn’t even take her resume. And the middle-class franchises like Chili’s and Olive Garden? They never called back and asked her if she had any “table-waiting experience”. Of course, the answer was no.
3) A good friend of mine who is also unemployed is a 57-year old out of work marketer and salesman. He called me the other day and lamented: “You know back in the day if I was out of work, I’d go to a headhunter, and she’d refer me to get an interview, and I’d get hired. Nowadays, it’s all about who you know that’s already working to try and network you in. I mean, I sent my resume out to every local company in my industry and never received any aknowledgement from them.”
4) NEWSFLASH to Sean Hannity: This is not 1953 when the unemployment rate was 2.9%, and I can walk into Flo’s Diner and get a job on the same day without even filling out a job application.
5) For Sean Hannity to give job seeking advice is laughable. He dropped out of NYU and Adelphi University, and then got his first break at a volunteer college radio station. The rest as they say, is history. His occupation is a radio host, television host, political commentator, and “author”- in other words: he is yet another entertainment whore that doesn’t produce anything in this economy.
Most of his debates and lectures are straight from civics teachers in New York from the 70’s and 80’s: you know, they say they are balanced and have perspective, but they wind up selling that patriotism is great, government regulation sucks, welfare recipients are leaches, our founding fathers were perfect men, protesting Republican presidents is anti-American, with some very idealistic notions of America as a symbol and pure living thing.

I’m bombarded with so many contradictory things in my little world. Or maybe they are not contradictory; maybe my world is such a small sample size, and I am unable to see macroeconomics in action.
If there is one thing that is true about human behavior and spending money it is that people are irrational and make emotional purchases all the time. People will take risks, as well (spend money to make money).
Random things I am seeing right now and can back up with proof:
The unemployment rate is still increasing. Add forced part-time workers to that or inconsistent temping, and it balloons higher.
Trends in poor neighborhoods do not represent all of America.
The housing market and commercial real estate market may have crashed, but there are still people buying. Same with the stock market. The rate may have fallen, but the “buy low; sell high” mentality is still high.
We have all resigned that the economy is bad and things are slow. We need a psychological boost; it’s not going to come from a talking head expert.
The middle-class still has disposable incomes; the stats don’t lie. People are still going to concerts, sporting events, vacations, and eating out (it’s a myth that fast food is cheap).
Advertising dollars are still mind-boggling. Companies, small businesses, and aspiring entrepreneurs are STILL investing cold hard capital in online advertising through affiliate programs, banners, text ads, and dozens of other ways. People and companies are making tons of money online. Many people are realizing how much free promotions are on social networking, too, such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube.
People still buy bulk wholesale and resell. And people are BUYING stuff like perfume, handbags, jewelry, shoes, vitamins, cosmetics, cell phones, and electronics. A lot of cash passes hands with reselling. Reselling is the lifeblood of ebay and similar sites.
The lower class is suffering the worst- the elderly who live on social security checks and have no nest egg, and people who live alone have been cutting back just to survive.
Credit cards- where would we be without them?
School- still not affordable without a grant, still so easy to get buried in debt, so many scam colleges out there.
The entertainment industry is truly a skewed reality: athletes, movie stars, TV stars, singers, and some radio personalities are still making money hand over fist.
So are doctors and lawyers. By the way, I add politicians to that list, too: I’ve never seen a poor one yet.
Traffic is HEAVY in Broward County and Dade County, Florida.
I still see people spending $100-$200 on grocery shopping at Walmart, Publix, or Winn-Dixie on Friday evenings.
Franchise fast food eateries and some middle-class restaurant food chains are still doing well, but it’s actually cheaper to make a brown paper bag lunch.
I am now seeing government bids with GREEN requirements.
For those in the lower class or for those in the precariously lower middle class- the grim reality of homelessness is still there. If you can’t pay your rent to your landlord, you’re pretty much done in this society if you don’t have family to go back to.
Universities all around our nation are PACKED, and online courses are BOOMING. All on loans.
Even with prices dropping in the auto industry, the consumer never wins. Never. Same with real estate. There’s always some catch- so crazy fee or interest rate or fine print.
You must a death wish if you want to open up a restaurant in this economy. You may have the best cook in the world, and a great location but in this world, the lowest price wins.
Industries that complain about losing money due to bootlegs are still making money (music, Hollywood, porn studios, video games, HBO, etc.)
The newspaper industry is a dead man walking, and I am not crying over it; I haven’t bought a newspaper since 2003.
With so much free content on the internet, advertising is the main source of revenue, and people expect free content. YET, people will gladly pay small one-time fees for ANYTHING, especially get rich quick PDFs or watching satellite channels on your computer. Others get stuck with auto-recurring “backstage passes” to some site with “special” content.
Outsourcing- no one believes in it, but everyone is forced to do it if you run your own business.
Spam works. Telemarketing works. There’s a sucker born every minute.
The lower class doesn’t trust banks and saving money, and feel like they are burning a hole in their pocket if they don’t blow their paycheck before next payday.
Most radio commercials, internet ads, and cardboard signs on the street advertising federal loans, government grants, or bailout money are usually shady.
So were you at IKEA this Sunday like everyone else? It’s not like they had a sale or anything. But you can bet that there will always be online sales. Side-by-side comparisons show buying goods online is less than buying at the retail giants. Shipping and handling is also extremely low nowadays, and probably less than the gas and hassle or finding a parking spot.
Well, not really “fire”, but that’s how the MEDIA kinda reported it, and that’s the keyword used when people talk about the General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner to step down.
For the record, let’s do a quick recap of who Wagoner is: Rick is the guy who stood in line for the handouts, was the man on top when GM crumbled, authorized layoffs, and collected bonuses. In short, here is a man who is the poster child of everything that is wrong with the system.
Before Earth-O, a company that failed as much as GM would simply file for bankruptcy. But…things are different now. We live in the Bailout Universe, and are headed towards a Depression.
Here is Rick’s final statement: “On Friday I was in Washington for a meeting with administration officials. In the course of that meeting, they requested that I “step aside” as CEO of GM, and so I have.”
President Obama’s statement- as I said when I reviewed Obama’s autobiography, it’s kinda hard to actually interpret what he means because he says both sides of an angle- so, he says everything…yet nothing, just like that sentence.
Anyway, here are some quotes:
One of the challenges we’ve confronted from the beginning of this administration is what to do with the state of the struggling auto industry. In recent months, my Auto Task Force has been reviewing requests by General Motors and Chrysler for additional government assistance, as well as plans developed by each of these companies to restructure, to modernize, and to make themselves more competitive…
…Over the past year, our auto industry has shed over 400,000 jobs, not only at plants that produce cars, but at the businesses that produce the parts that go into them and the dealers that sell and repair them…
…Year after year, decade after decade, we’ve seen problems papered over and tough choices kicked down the road, even as foreign competitors outpaced us. Well, we’ve reached the end of that road…
…We cannot, and must not, and we will not let our auto industry simply vanish. This industry is like no other — it’s an emblem of the American spirit; a once and future symbol of America’s success…
…These companies — and this industry — must ultimately stand on their own, not as wards of the state…
…And that’s why the federal government provided General Motors and Chrysler with emergency loans to prevent their sudden collapse at the end of last year — only on the condition that they would develop plans to restructure. In keeping with that agreement, each company has submitted a plan to restructure. But after careful analysis, we’ve determined that neither goes far enough to warrant the substantial new investments that these companies are requesting…
…And so today I’m announcing that my administration will offer GM and Chrysler a limited additional period of time to work with creditors, unions, and other stakeholders to fundamentally restructure in a way that would justify an investment of additional taxpayer dollars. During this period they must produce plans that would give the American people confidence in their long-term prospects for success…
…no one can deny that our auto industry has made meaningful progress in recent years — and this doesn’t get talked about often enough. Some of the cars made by American workers right now are outperforming the best cars made abroad. In 2008, the North American Car of the Year was a GM. This year, Buick tied for first place as the most reliable car in the world. Our companies are investing in breakthrough technologies that hold the promise of new vehicles that will help America end its addiction to foreign oil…
..GM has made a good faith effort to restructure over the past several months — but the plan that they’ve put forward is, in its current form, not strong enough. However, after broad consultation with a range of industry experts and financial advisors, I’m absolutely confident that GM can rise again, providing that it undergoes a fundamental restructuring. As an initial step, GM is announcing today that Rick Wagoner is stepping aside as Chairman and CEO. This is not meant as a condemnation of Mr. Wagoner, who’s devoted his life to this company and has had a distinguished career; rather, it’s a recognition that will take new vision and new direction to create the GM of the future.
Here is Michael Moore’s reaction:
This bold move has sent the heads of corporate America spinning and spewing pea soup. Obama has issued this edict: The government of, by, and for the people is in charge here, not big business. John McCain got it. On the floor of the Senate he asked, “What does this signal send to other corporations and financial institutions about whether the federal government will fire them as well?” Senator Bob Corker said it “should send a chill through all Americans who believe in free enterprise.” The stock market plunged as the masters of the universe asked themselves, “Am I next?” And they whispered to each other, “What are we going to do about this Obama?”
Not much, fellows. He has the massive will of the American people behind him — and he has been granted permission by us to do what he sees fit. If you liked this week’s all-net 3-pointer, stay tuned.
And now here are some Message Board reactions:
for someone who constantly states that they “have no intentions of running GM” it sure sounds to me like that is exactly what they are planning on doing.
if things keep going the way they are we won’t have to worry about attacks from out side America. we will have another civil war and the rest of the world will sit back and laugh, or worse yet jump in and take us apart.
what will our world be like when China bails us out and is replacing our executives with ones that are favorable to them (as with Wagoner).
I strongly believe that goverment has no right to get involved in big business to such an extent as to take the power to fire a CEO. We need to stop the power grab of this administration. America’s very freedoms and it’s Soul is at stake. God gave each individual different talents. What makes this adminstration think that they have the talents to do everything better than any other American?
We find this move by the president very frightening! It’s one more step (following many recent steps)closer to socialism. Can something be done to stop this movement?
Where are the lawyers on Constitutional law when you need one! This administration has clearly demonstrated they operate outside the framework of our Constitution. What law gives the president the ability to force the leader of a company out of his job? Our private industries are now being policed and at the fate and opinion of this most intrusive administration.
How can the President fire a CEO from a company? How can all these policy changes from the President and his cronies go into law without the ok from the people of this country. Everything is very very frightening
America, you wanted change and you are getting it. America is a socialist county now. Is this what our founders fought for with their lives, fortunes and honor? Is this what the American patriots, ordinary people, endured the unimaginable hardship during the Revolutionary War and subsequent conflicts to uphold the freedom of individuals? We have let them all down.
So the President fires a CEO then hires a new one? Then the President tells car owners that the Government will guarantee the warranties on their new cars? President Obama has overstepped his bounds by a long shot! Where in the Constitution does it say that the President has the power to hire and fire in the private sector? Where does it say that the Government is allowed to run a business?
It has happened, folks! Welcome to the United Socialist States of America!
Where have we come to in this nation when ANY politician is able to tell ANY private individual they must leave their job? Not only did the president tell him he was effectively fired, he also refused GM to give him a severance package. Poor little liberals are laughing right now, because CEO’s have been scapegoated just as the Jews were in the 1930’s in Germany. Right now they are only sending the CEO’s off to the concentration camps, but who is next. We can be sure that this will not stop with CEO’s, but will trickle down to effect all of us. Many of the other countries in Europe were unconcerned with what was going on in Germany, but they soon found Hitler knocking at their doors requiring their papers as well!
Bailing out any business that has shown this much irresponsibility is just being topped by more irresponsibility on the part of our government. It looks like a systimatic takeover of everything we stand for is now well on its way.
The actions of the first two months of this administration are appalling and frightening. Their interference in the employee and compensation structure of non-government entities is socialistic. Our America is under attack from the very top. Their goal seems to be total control. Like-minded Americans must unite to stop this. We must contact our representatives, stay informed and make our voices heard.
This is America! How is it the president can fire ANYONE FROM A PRIVATE BUSINESS?! How is it he can steal from taxpayers FOR what he CLAIMS to keep BUSINESSES (OBAMA PREFERS) GOING? GOVERNMENT HAS NO RIGHT! THIEVERY IS AGAINST THE LAW IN CIVIL SOCIETY. AFTER THE PRESIDENT’S THIEVERY OF THE TAXPAYERS SAYS HIS PREFERENTIAL AID COULD BANKRUPT ANYWAY? When the PEOPLE have told him all along the way, LET THEM GO BANKRUPT? He is non-productive, WASTE! DANGEROUS AND UGLY!!!
I am outraged that this administration has the audacity to remove a corporate CEO. That is the sole right and responsibility of the share holders and/or the board of directors. Where are we headed? I am truly frightened that America will lose its capitalistic foundation. Are we headed toward socialism?
Should we be looking at the History of Germany? We are being moved to Socialism by making people believe that these things the President is doing are legal!!! Where are the Constitutional Lawyers? Help Us stop the Insanity of this Administration!
Rick Wagoner is not a talented CEO. For all of the complaning about Bailouts and the problems they produce, Rick Wagoner was there with his hand out. He should have declared that the only way for GM to solve its problems in the long term is to reorganize. His lack of leadership will cost the taxpayers and GM big time
Wake up America!! Where do we draw the line? How do I know the president isn’t going to come to my place of employment and fire me?
America voted and is now getting what it deserves
Does the term…”New World Order” come to mind. No, let’s call it “Euro Federation” or “Global Federation”. He should have been fired a long time ago over their squashing of electric cars. Bad move! The firing should have been from GM not Obama, but then now who has the power?
The Fascist Left is on the move. Does anyone in the fawning media see parallels between this administration and Germany of the 1920’s and ’30’s? GM and Chrysler should have been allowed to reorganize under chapter 11 bankruptcy months ago. This group of social engineers in charge of our Nation WANT to control everything! Obama has amassed more debt in two months than all the presidents from Washington to George W. combined. These Liberal Fascists now have the power to bring about the ‘CHANGE’ they’ve been pushing for several generations. Look at what Pelosi’s world view has done to her home state–that’s what America will look like if this wholesale takeover continues.
The Fascist left have corrupted all public discourse. The American Republic is the only truly radical political revolution in the last thousand years. It will cease to exist under the leadership of the Social Engineers now running our Government.
where are the constitutional lawyers when you need one? And, where are the republicans?? Come on Eric Cantor this is your chance…. stand up and be counted!!!! Or should we sit back and let da bama take everything he wants, including your lunch….How does the united socailist sates of america sound? I get it why don’t they??? anyone?
Obummer has no concerns for the auto company’s. His concerns lie with the UAW and maitaining the flow of campaign money to liberals like himself and others. People should not call them auto bailouts. The proper term is UAW bailouts. If you want job security form a union and the union will donate a portion of your union dews to liberals thus insuring your employment. I know it sounds like blackmail but thats exactly what it is. Unions used to be happy just blackmailing companys and passing on the cost to consumers. Now they have the ability to extort from the American citizenry through the govt.. You could call it doubling down because they aren’t going to give up on blackmailing the companys and passing that on to the consumer. Union workers are generally high end welfare recipients. so hug a union worker.
I am pretty sure this is what conquest looks like. No laws, no respect and no adherent to past history.
The US government is on a rampage to cover its butt for writing laws that spoiled their nest eggs and feathering concepts based on extortion of companies that are now bankrupt for all practical purposes and are now fleecing us to maintain the charade.
We should be terrified that there are still supporters of this dictatorial embezzling of our children’s future by power hungry players.
Just a mere few weeks ago Bush was chastise incessantly for creating a debt that was historicly high but has become so minuscule in comparison that if Bush was evil this government servant is Satan himself.
The yoke is being forged for your children and the mantra is still all about how handsome he looks or how charming his wife dresses. This exposes how infuriated the communists have been at Americas past stubborness not to comply to their way of servitude to the state. We are being stripped from our constitutional protections by a puppet of Marxism.
If GM can be dismantled at he whim of the Obot who is protected from his next plan?
As for my own personal opinion…there seems to be a huge disconnect with people interpreting Obama’s plans.
How bad is the recession? Seniors are cashing out their life insurance policies. You have to be real careful if you are a senior and considering doing this. You need to read the fine print and make sure you are going to get your dollar value back. Don’t panic and make any rash decisions on your own. Speak to a financial adviser. Life insurance sales have been declining for years, and six million households don’t have any term life insurance.
Looking for an unemployment benefits extension? Want to know how Obama will lower the unemployment rate? Looking for jobs? You’ve come to the wrong place. This post is about a victim of the FINANCIAL CRISIS anti-matter cloud. His name is R.A.W.
R.A.W. of DailySkew fame posted:
I went into winn dixie Sunday night with about four dollars in change scrounged from various sources throughout my home- couches, junk-drawers, etc.
I entered carrying a big metal cup full of this change and poured it in to the green coinstar machine to receive a certificate.
My mission was simple:
One loaf of cheap white bread, and one jar of peanut butter….
…Bartering for items from people without money has now become commonplace on my street as too many are behind on their rent, out of work, etc.
And people dont have a lot to do, they sit around drinking and asking questions about where to find work.
Also there has been a rash of bike theft throughout the neighborhood as people are now stealing whatever is not nailed down or locked up, and I often pass at least one garage sale a day during my daily errands.
Guess what happened to R.A.W.? Want experience the life of an unemployed man living in South Florida? Are you curious to read about his conversation with a real live Republican? Or perhaps you are interested in learning how a man on unemployment barters for food in his trailer park? Do you want to look into the Abyss? Don’t be surprised if the Abyss looks back….Click here to read his adventure: RAW.
Economic experts and laymen all agree that is there one profession that will never go away no matter how bad the economy is: health care and medicine. That is why getting on the health care career track is the way to go. Many companies and organization have positions and health care jobs available, such as registered nurse, case manager, mental health worker, respiratory therapist, and hospice RNs.
The DailySkew, the undisputed worldwide leader of online journalism, has uncovered industries, companies, and organizations who qualify for Bailout Round 2. In September, when Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr. presented the rescue proposal to Congress, the House at first voted down the plan, however, global stock markets reacted by immediately plummeting. This initiative, known as the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), eventually passed both chambers and was signed into law in October, even though the people and MEDIA were against it. At the time, The DailySkew called it a Christmas Tree Bill, because of all the special interest groups and backroom politics involved. Anyway, here’s the list of present and future bailout recipients:
Bear Sterns
American Express
Fat cat bank executives who enjoy charging you for overdrafts
CEOs who already get big bonuses and enjoy laying off workers to satisfy stockholders
On the heels of R.A.W.’s post saying that he is having issues finding work, and the dire straights he is in, and Tony’ LDOTR posts, I’d like to say the following about the economy, even though we said it already:
The MEDIA and “experts” need to STOP the fear-mongering and panic selling. Let’s hope once Obama is sworn in, there will be a renewed sense of hope and change that the people are able to feel, which translates into American jobs. Granted, conservative talk radio will continue to attack all of Obama’s plans, and spread panic, fear, and hatred while their checking accounts increase. We need to ignore it because we have no control over policy.
At this point we all know “economic stimulus checks” don’t really help in the long run.
We also know that “The Bailout Mentality” has trickled all the way down to the Average Joe. Now a dying MEDIA- NEWSPAPERS- are rumored to apply for a bailout.
As Vahl said in the past, the mentality is rewarding and reinforcing incompetent management behavior.
But there is a silver lining in all of this- CEOs, entrepreneurs, and small business owners will always have the drive to succeed and generate profits. Although many are scaling back and cutting positions via layoffs, in time many businesses will become more streamlined and efficient and create more jobs.
I’m not going to be pitching any ideas to Obama, but we have been on the record about creating jobs for alternative energy and different types of cars, in addition to repairing infrastructure. I also think everyone needs a legit. chance (and REAL financial aid) of going to school and finding a job in such industries as health and medical, social work, legal, construction, computer programming, etc.
As soon as the big players see a spark of light, the unemployment rate will decrease. But we are not there yet. People are trying to save money right now- we have seen some prices decrease at retail outlets, and people are saving money by shopping at dollar stores and eating at McDonald’s. The falling price of gas HELPS everyone except stock holders and the big wigs, so I DON’T WANT THE PRICE OF GAS TO GO BACK TO $4, no matter what the “experts” say.
A couple of weeks ago, Dani told me that his friend- with good credit and working- was rejected for a loan from a bank even though the guy put his house up as collateral, even with the decreased interest rate. Things have not settled down with the housing bailout bill yet, but ultimately consumers and banks need to work together and have the confidence. And, yes, people must have extra income to buy stuff and keep other people employed- Economics 101.
But with the MEDIA reporting New Year’s celebration as “subdued” they are still pitching a dark and gloomy situation, which enables and continues the CRISIS mentality. My view is that human behavior and psychology fuel the economy. Therefore, the MEDIA has a responsibility to pitch positive “keep your chin up” stories (like plans to create jobs) or ideas to help stimulate the economy.
During times of CRISIS and emergencies the White House has exercised power to keep the general populace’s confidence and spirit “up”. Obama is certainly someone who can inject some enthusiasm into people. Unfortunately, conservative radio and FOX News would rather focus on the coming Great Depression and One Nation Under Obama as opposed to pitching news items that can give us hope and confidence.
One of the most infuriating things occur when an “expert” gets on TV and says “the sky is falling”, the stock market is crashing, no job is safe, and Obama’s plans will bankrupt Social Security and further increase our national debt, so their will be no future for our children.
With the recession here, people are forced to cut back spending and look for good deals. I am sure you have noticed how empty some stores are; that’s because consumers are looking for inexpensive items. Now is probably the best time to buy a dollar store franchise. Those stores always have customers, and it is easy to own this fastest growing franchise.
The talking heads (see three of them above) are adding to the media driven anxiety about the economy by making about AT&T’s job cuts and previous job elimination slashes as another sign of the coming New Great Depression.
Have anyone of you actually called AT&T/Bellsouth’s customer service for something? I would have fired them two years ago…
But that’s besides the point. Companies in a capitalist society need to strive to streamline all the time. I guess the 12,000 + weren’t a necessary cog on their giant machine anyway.
Yet AT&T is blaming all of this on people canceling landlines and going with cell phones due to people trying to save money and curtail spending. I mean, I know AT&T has an exclusive deal with Apple with the iPhone and everything, and makes hundreds of millions of dollars, but I’m sure the really have financial trouble.
Uh-huh.
Ya think AT&T is going to jump on the Bailout Bandwagon one of these days?
So now we will be taking care of the workers via unemployment. According to the MEDIA, it appears we’re all going to be ending up logging into our state’s unemployment web page sooner or later anyway. It’s ironic, though…the Talking Heads and “experts” get paid to tell us that we’re unemployed! Only in America!
We worry about the stock market, we bought multiple housing properties, new cars, the latest technologies, and frankly wasted money and credit on things.
The politicians don’t like to place any blame on us, since we are “the victims” of a poorly regulated system and greed.
But we should share the blame.
Each and every one of us are blessed to be living in the United States of America. It’s no accident that we are here…I don’t believe in coincidences. If you visited a country in Africa or South America or Asia, and complained about not being able to take your usual three annual vacations, you’d get robbed and shot.
Every generation of Americans had classes that struggled to make end’s meat. We are nowhere NEAR the Great Depression, no matter what talk radio sells every day.
There’s an old Buddhist story about a farmer complaining to Buddha about losing all of his cows, and how will not be able to meet his quotas, and all the money he’s going to lose. Buddha doesn’t see the problem- because now there’s less things to worry about. Get back to the basics, people.
Nomar Garciaparra announced his retirement and said he’s DONE. The truth is that Nomar has been done since he hit the age of 30 back in 2004, and he had been sliding before that, which is why he was chased out of Boston. Nomar always received a bunch of MEDIA attention for his skill (he [...] […]
Here’s what I learned listening to Talk Radio: Fox News: - Toyota claims acceleration is not caused by computer chip problems/electronics OPINION ALERT — Toyota is DONE! Somebody call the Soul Patrol! Toyota is not doing everything possible to prevent deaths. They need to follow Tylenol’s example with the cyanide scandal from the early 1980’s and assume the […]
This time around I realized that the raccoon was free from suffering now. It's a shame its life had to end like that- it was blameless; humans built roads in the middle of his ancestor's forest. Progress and technology broke that raccoon's legs and took his life tonight. But now the suffering has ended for it. I mourned the raccoon and the way […]
ust a quick observation before I run: I jumped from watching 1980's pro wrestling to the 1991 Survivor Series because WWE put up the whole PPV online for a limited time. It never fails to amaze me how much things change. It was like I was in a time machine from 1987 to 1991... […]
