DailySkew Post #900: 2008 Year in Review

2008 lived up to its billing, but ultimately it was no different than 1864, 1919, or 1983 or any other year- people lived, people died, and the world will never be the same again.

Eneagram Personality Type #8 (It was his year, 2008) is the Challenger, and personification of a “dog eat dog” world, with skewed notions of fairness and justice.

Before I get into this, my condolences to everyone who lost a family member this year, dealt with sickness or injury, or painful circumstances beyond their control.

2008

From the cultural standpoint in America and other countries- it’s official: the Internet is here, and here to stay, and has never been more influential in our daily lives. We truly live in an instant digital world. Whereas the Internet and digital world has been here very strong in recent years, in my view 2008 was 100% fully accepting of this world, and the new technology and systems became the NORMAL state of business: Google, Facebook, myspace, youtube, friendster, JustinTV, craigslist, ebay, amazon, webcams, streaming video, downloading torrents, instant messaging, Twitter, Yahoo news, e-mail, surfing on mobile phones, iTunes, photo albums, blogs, etc. are no longer niche geeky things.

In fact, digital communication has become the norm for me, now that my friends don’t live nearby and my extended family lives overseas. It’s my habit, for better or for worse, and this is how I express myself now.

The MEDIA and its role in feeding us what “THEY” determine to be newsworthy [marketable] never ceases to get my attention, and the presiential election and economy were the two major problems I had with MEDIA coverage this year, in addition to the MEDIA’S Scale of Importance. The Snapshot Joe reporting by the MEDIA generally frustrates me when I speak with people who have been spoon fed everything, and regurgitate to me the “facts” at face value without questioning. I’ve learned to bite my tongue in “real life” when interacting with people (blogging and reading comments just doesn’t seem *as* real to me).

The fact that the MEDIA is an Unhealthy Type 8 (short sighted, jumping from topic to topic, no memory) just added to the chaos this year.

Ultimately, I don’t believe humanity in general took a step forward this year, and I kinda stopped worrying about it as much. Many of the comments posted here and other sites seem to demonstrate the futility of it all. It seems that in this world of terrorism, sexual slavery, poverty, and economic recession, Lazy Man Ethics (LME) is the spiritual currency.

As much as people like to criticize patriotism, organized religion, or the post-war “good old days” that we experienced in the late 40’s and 50’s, there is a lot to be said about feeling part of something greater than yourself, and to have an identity and purpose.

What’s 2008’s identity? “Change” and “Bail me out”. Great.

Thanks to the Internet, we have many options to choose as to what we want to be bombarded with. When I was a kid it was just local radio, 5-channel network TV, three newspapers, and magazines. Now, I have a multitude of options and variety.

I haven’t listened to conservative talk radio since around Nov.5 and actually feel good about that, especially since based on the shows I listened to, Rush Limbaugh was more accurate than CNN. I’m not saying I’m I look down upon political junkies, or that I’m somehow “evolved”- because discussing the issues is good, but I’ve been staying away from the Talking Heads in general since November due to the fact that I personally have no control over anything that they are fear mongering. I mean, everyone is an economics expert by the water cooler. I never knew we had so many experts walking around, with all of their contradictory theories.

Fear and panic- that’s what millions are buying right now, after buying hope and change all year. Greed and materialism are at the roots of all of the suffering, as is the attachment to security and status. I’ve been expecting the anti-matter cloud to come and wipe everything out since July 1985, and it hasn’t come yet. When it does, it does; it can’t be stopped. I understand it’s human nature to panic, complain, speculate, and try to control, but 2008 made me a bit tired to constantly rant and rave about every presidential policy, bill proposal, economic theory, regulation, and who should be blamed for the latest injustice, etc.

To me, all of this noise blocks our true perceptions of reality: we have our health (hopefully), and if you don’t or are living with a handicap, you still have enough energy to find Skew.DailySkew.com and read this post. You have a computer, Internet access, or a mobile phone. No matter what your situtation is, you are blessed. Don’t let the MEDIA or the inner demons that we all have tell you differently.

Let’s hope 2009 is a bit more peaceful and stable.

Happy New Year.

Second Coming: REAL Messiah Killed TWICE: Shark (no joke)

In 2001, the MEDIA did not publicize the birth of a baby to a virgin mother. This photo is of a baby shark, which was born in a Nebraska zoo in 2001. DNA tests showed that this shark was a product of a virgin birth, the first time the phenomenon has been confirmed in a shark. There is only one time in human history where this was alleged to happen: Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, the baby was killed soon after birth by a stingray kept in the same tank.

Scientists were able to match the DNA with one of three potential mothers in the tank, however none of these females had had any contact with a male.

Fast forward to now (virgin shark birth article):

A female shark named Tidbit was caught in the wild when she was very young and reached sexual maturity in a tank at the Virginia Aquarium in Virginia Beach, where she lived for eight years. Tidbit was KILLED by a fool scientist during a “routine” physical exam. The post-death dissection revealed Tidbit was pregnant with a near term shark pup.

That’s twice, scientists allowed pups from a virgin shark birth DIE.

The DailySkew received this message from the Shark King:

“As I predicted, FINAL CRISIS is upon us in 2008. Not once, but TWICE did the Sons of Man killed the Shark Messiah. But don’t worry- He shall return once again.”

Dr. Richard Hoffman believes that this parthenogenesis may be an evolutionary adaption in sharks as the species is decades away from extinction.

“Due to mankind’s recklessness, sharks will become extinct within 20 years. This is nature’s way of preservation.”

However, Dr. J. Mathews of North Carolina University says that although rare, parthenogenesis occurs in many other animals, and probably has occurred in other non-documented shark cases.

When informed of Mathews’ comment, Shark King vowed revenge.

Barack Obama’s campaign manager had no comment.

Eight Belles horse dies at Kentucky Derby

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Boy, did Eight Belles hang with the boys. All that heart and her gallant fight, however, ended in the worst of all possible ways: a breakdown, an ambulance on the track. And, with no other choice, she was euthanized by injection.

“There was no way to save her. She couldn’t stand,” trainer Larry Jones said. “She ran an incredible race. She ran the race of her life.”

“Losing animals like this isn’t fun. It’s not supposed to happen,” he said. “We’re heartbroke. We’re going to miss her, no doubt.”

“When we passed the wire I stood up,” said a distraught Saez, a first-time Derby rider. “She started galloping funny. I tried to pull her up. That’s when she went down.”

“That’s one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen,” said fan Kathleen Brower of Louisville. “We went from the high for the winner and something like this happens. It just takes the wind out of the sails.”

“She didn’t have a front leg to stand on to be splinted and hauled off in the ambulance, so she was immediately euthanized,” Bramlage said. “In my years in racing, I have never seen this happen at the end of the race or during the race.”

Another tragic reason why horse racing- and any animal racing- should be banned in today’s so-called modern society. A female horse was put to death after breaking her ankles and finishing 2nd at the Kentucky Derby yesterday.

I mean, COULDN’T THE HORSE BE AIRLIFTED TO A HOSPITAL?
AMAZING HOW THE CELEBRATIONS CONTINUED WHILE A RUNNER IS BEING KILLED.

It’s an injustice how horses are USED like slaves by humans. It’s so ironic how people call the horse “it” after she breaks her legs, but she was being promoted as the only girl competing (a filly) before the race.

And what kind of callous Associated Press lead in is that- “Boy, did Eight Belles hang with the boys. All that heart and her gallant fight, however, ended in the worst of all possible ways”.

With the growth of vegetarianism, children’s films and TV shows showing how animals feel the same way as humans, and the billions of dollars families spend on veterinarians, pet food, and toys every year, you’d think the death of a horse (who died to make her “owners” money, and to entertain you) would be reported a bit more tactfully, and a reporter would challenge the act of killing the horse because they allegedly couldn’t move her. It’s more like her “owners” no longer saw a use for her anymore, and wanted to cut their losses.

I don’t care about the dumb tradition of killing a horse if she breaks her ankle. It truly is modern day slavery, and everyone involved will hopefully be held accountable by karma- perhaps being born as a horse in their next life, and see how it feels.

Shark King: 2008 Will be the Year of the Shark Attack

The Shark King Speaketh
DailySkew exclusive

The Shark King (read his first appearance) has claimed responsibility for recent shark attacks in Australia, San Diego, California, and New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

“The war shall always continue,” The Shark King proclaimed from an undisclosed location. “I accept full responsibility.”

“As long as my children are hunted, as long as my babies’ fins are used for soup, my shark network shall destroy humanity. We’ve existed for millions of years before humanity, and will be here after humanity’s extinction.”

The San Diego Beach has reopened: “This shark is probably long, long gone by now, but this is all precautionary,” said Craig Miller, a local marine safety officer.

At New Smyrna Beach, lifeguards continue to clear swimmers: “According to beach records, the latest victim was the ninth recorded shark bite of the year in Volusia County, putting the number of bites ahead of the record breaking Year Of The Shark in 2001.”

On April 8, a 16-year-old surfer was killed by a shark off Australia’s east coast; shark attacks in Australia are rising, according to the University of Florida.

The Shark King mocked humans for using coastlines and deep seas for recreational activities:

“I told these fools to stay out of the waters, yet they continue to walk barefoot in my home. They have swimming pools- use them or be eaten.”
