Rise of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Rupert Wyatt, with special effects from “the creators of Avatar”. It stars James Franco. This film does not seem to be a full reboot to the Planet of the Apes series; instead it appears to be a prequel to the original. That would be very cool. Mark Wahlberg’s 2001 Planet of the Apes has been relegated to an Elseworlds tale, however that has not been officially established (look for signs in Rise of the Planet of the Apes to see which it is a prequel of- don’t listen to the speculation.) It will be released in theaters on August 5, 2011.
Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
Considering that I am a proponet of the Animal Revolution (see the real life photo in this post for the reason why), I will most definitely get my fix from this movie. I’ve watched every Planet of the Apes movie in the past, and am looking forward to a “realistic” modern version.
