I’ve been getting e-mails from shocked and disgruntled fans wanting proof about how Silver Sable got screwed by Marvel’s Jeph Loeb in HULK 17 (guys you can use the comment section or Twitter now, okay? My email box is loaded with Spam.)
For those of you who haven’t heard of the Silver Sable controversy yet, understand this: Silver Sable is #2 to the Black Cat when it comes to female super-heroes in Spider-Man’s stories. She has always- always- been portrayed as cold, calculating, in control, and the head of an international top security spy agency. Although she has no super-powers, her resources, technology, and martial arts skills not only make her a formidable ally or foe, but she has assassins and ninjas at her disposal.
I personally am not attached to the character, simply because she always one-upped Spidey in his own comic book. But she does have a good place in my heart because she appeared during a cool era in Amazing Spider-Man‘s history: #265, 279-281, 301-303, 320-325. She’s a heartless mercenary but keeps her word. She has a good backstory and excellent visuals.
Now, due to copyright laws, I can’t upload every page, but I will upload parts of panels showing how Silver Sable got jobbed by Hulk “writer” Jeph Loeb in Red Hulk #17 (Thanksgiving Day Sweet Potato Dog Crap):
Okay, this is the Silver Sable’s first appearance in Hulk #17. This scene comes out of nowhere in the comic, so don’t worry about context. Welcome to compressed comic books. My first reaction is WTF? Did Rulk, Wolverine, and Domino surprise her? How? Or did they beat up her guards? After I read the sentences again, it looks like Domino managed to subdue Silver Sable all by herself. WTF? And here we have Domino implying Silver Sable is a whore with the way Domino says “She sells herself. Her services.” Finally, we see Silver Sable totally spilling the beans about her green haired client (Doc Samson). Since when does Silver Sable rat on her clients?
Here we have a close-up of Silver Sable on her knees looking distressed, and how “cool” Domino (a Rob Leifeld creation) is. The Real Silver Sable would have legswept Domino, and put the gun down her throat, or at least jumped away (No one has a chance against Wolverine and Rulk).
This scene- later on- still has SS on her knees, and is now being traded for during negotiations like a helpless harem girl.
