Facebook Review

The Facebook phenomena is a reality and it looks like it’s here to stay (uhm…maybe, because Americans are a fickle lot- MySpace, anyone?). Here’s Damian’s Facebook review:

The Good
  • You can easily connect with relatives and stay in touch in a fun and efficient way with family members.
  • The quickest and cheapest way (it’s free) to connect with former co-workers, classmates, or friends.
  • Privacy options allow you to share your life and photos with only the people you choose.
  • Free marketing if you are so inclined.
  • Facebook ads have a great target audience if you want to make them (paid).
The Bad
  • Facebook apps. I will not accept any of them due to virus threats and resource hogging. Not to mention most are really advertisements, and I try not to advertise for free.
  • Stalkerville
  • Watch what you say- default settings enable friends of friends to see your page, so before you know it your boss is reading your hate journal.
  • Embarrassing photos that the world can see.
  • Addictive games that everyone is playing and trying to get me to play- Mafia Wars and Farmville.
The Ugly
  • When someone doesn’t accept you as a friend.
  • When someone removed you as a friend. If a relative does it this could mean a cold war.
  • People that are on all of the time.
  • If your mom posts stuff on your page.
  • Twitter lite: people post the most lame things.
  • Welcome to the new way of communicating and socializing. We hope you enjoy your stay in the Matrix.
Damian’s Facebook Fun Facts (small sample)
  • Most people have friends of the same race or nationality.
  • Yes, there are black people on Facebook.
  • Most people don’t leave their hometowns or states or wind up returning to them.
  • Those who graduated from an ivy league school or Top 20 school are employed and doing well.
  • Conversely there are some people that just keep going to college to further and further and further their educations and pretty much are university researchers or alumni and somehow support their habit.
  • Students who were at the top of my classes are doing well.
  • I had expected to get into deep online conversations with long-lost friends, but I only had a couple of chats and I only have frequent e-mails with my half-brother.

Here’s what I learned listening to Talk Radio: Fox News: - Toyota claims acceleration is not caused by computer chip problems/electronics OPINION ALERT — Toyota is DONE! Somebody call the Soul Patrol! Toyota is not doing everything possible to prevent deaths. They need to follow Tylenol’s example with the cyanide scandal from the early 1980’s and assume the […]

  • Jon Stewart DailyShow 2009 Year in Review
In other words, Jon Stewart is still firmly on the left, and is not objective. I guess we all have to make a living and objective, balanced, middle of the road voices are lost due to the extremists. I can see why Jon Stewart is so popular among independent voters and college students, but he just continues to be closed minded when it comes to saying anything […]

  • Roadkill: Dead Raccoon, Death, Rebirth, End of Suffering
This time around I realized that the raccoon was free from suffering now. It's a shame its life had to end like that- it was blameless; humans built roads in the middle of his ancestor's forest. Progress and technology broke that raccoon's legs and took his life tonight. But now the suffering has ended for it. I mourned the raccoon and the way […]

ust a quick observation before I run: I jumped from watching 1980's pro wrestling to the 1991 Survivor Series because WWE put up the whole PPV online for a limited time. It never fails to amaze me how much things change. It was like I was in a time machine from 1987 to 1991... […]
