Although Matt Drudge’s Drudgereport.com is still a trend setter, traffic monster, and generates untold riches through advertising, I think it’s about time Drudge fans come to the realization that the Drudge Report has jumped the shark (is past its peak). Internet surfers that hated Drudge from the beginning- this article isn’t for you, because I know you did not approve of Drudge going after President Bill Clinton with the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and your view of Drudge was forever closed-minded after that.
Drudge’s decline was most apparent during the 2008 Presidential election. During the primaries, his headlines ridiculed John McCain and he supported Barack Obama over Hilary Clinton. Then he totally did a hatched job on Barack and Michelle Obama, almost as bad as Michael Moore’s obsession with George Bush. Although Drudge’s critics will never give him credit for being balanced, the truth is that Drudge did have a fairly neutral yet comical libertarian angle years ago. But over time his views have been skewed to conservative Republicans, and he has allowed his site to be used as tool by FOXNews and Rush Limbaugh. There is no question that Drudge’s credibility has been compromised, as his headlines are strictly for the paranoid right-wing or white dudes that don’t like a Black First Family.
However, older Drudge fans can point to the lack of relevant original Drudge Special Reports. Here is Matt Drudge’s latest “Special Report”:

You’re kidding me, right?
Drudge would probably laugh at such “decline” assertions since all he does is link news articles and choose the right picture and create a funny headline on the hyperlink to make his point. He makes loads of money and gets a lot of attention doing a simple thing. I doubt he cares that his creativity levels have diminished, but they have. I’m sure he would like to be an investigtive journalist again, but it doesn’t look like he will strike gold again. It could be argued he was a one-hit wonder with the Clinton scandal, and simply cashed in on that fame even to this day.
Drudge knows he has the last laugh. He loves when the MEDIA gives him attention. The irony of course is that he is part of the MEDIA now. He purposely makes misleading links- the Obama looking at the Brazilian teenager’s butt pic was the most recent. Yeah, I know Drudge is parodying sensationalism, and maybe he is a closet comic book fan, but I think he’s doing it out of ego. I think he gets off on people buzzing about his top headline of the day. It’s all about the hits, and he eats it up. Drudge has been “working” the mainstream MEDIA for some time now, and his bank account is proof of this.
On the plus side, he still has informative links that he finds by scouring the Internet all day. I still check his site out of morbid curiosity to see how he’s spinning news, but I am pleased to find good links that I probably would not have found just surfing, although I usually have to scroll down to find them.
True political junkies go to Huffington Post or Politico now.
