NYC Cops arrest Superman and handcuff Batman

If you think your Sherriff’s Department is strict, let’s not forget the hospitality of NYC police officers who always had a reputation for enforcing the most minor laws. I remember when my friend was pulled over because he driving in a car that had “uneven air” in his tires and ticketed. Oh, and heaven help you if you park on the “wrong side of the street” or jaywalk. I guess it’s a nice way for the Commissioner to generate revenue, as opposed to, you know, tracking down real criminals.
Anyway, two guys dressed as Batman and Superman in New York City were approached by cops. The cops asked for their “license to dress up in a costume and perform”. That’s right, folks, we may live in the land of the free and the home of the brave, but it’s illegal to dress up as a super-hero and entertain people in the streets (and hopefully get a dollar tossed at you) without a permit. [The offcial reason: to create "fair competition" for street vendors.]
So the cops ask for the license, and of course they don’t have any. The cops ask for ID, and, well, Superman and Batman don’t carry IDs, everyone knows that. We have two serious, serious crimes here, now don’t we? The police handcuffed Batman, who was later revealed to be Frank Frisoli. Superman, however, freaked out, and punched a female cop; it took 7 cops to subdue Superman, who was revealed to be Maksim Katsnelson (this must have been the evil Superman from FINAL CRISIS: SUPERMAN BEYOND).
Batman was let go because he cooperated, but Superman is in deep trouble now. Still, if you survey people they will tell you the two costumed avengers should have never been approached to begin with. Like I said, New York is overrated (page 1 on Google- eat it, Steven).

wow.
your analysis of this is pretty much dead on.
I dont think i can add anything to it.
I wonder what type of license one needs to dress up as batman or superman and not get arrested.
if there was a real batman or superman in real life they would probably get arrested too.
kids who trick or treat on halloween also better watch out.
A good aclu lawyer could probably make the case that these guys had their rights violated, arrested for how they chose to dress, they had their freedom of expression violated etc.
I kind of wish that the entire city will all go out dressed up as superheroes in protest like the way everybody started wearing the same mask in v for vendetta.
or maybe some kind of organised protest where everybody dresses up as their favorite comic book superhero and demands justice and freedom.
but of course that probably wont happen.
I just thought of that show "cops" and maybe how something like this would look on that show.
"bad boys bad boys whatcha gonna do? whatcha gonna do when they come for you?"…
and then they show some cop tackling a little kid ringing a doorbell on halloween because he doesnt have a license to dress up as superman.
I like both of your ideas
