R.I.P. Joe Anastasio
Joseph Anastasio, 55, passed away on 6/6/2009 in Florida.
I first met Joe in 1999 at work. He was quite a character. He had great stories about his experiences in life, enough to write a book, major motion picture, and HBO ongoing series.
He learned new computer technology very quickly, and even though he had health issues and was late in life in terms of learning computers, he quickly became one of the most productive employees in the company.
He had pride, was competitve, and was active until the end. I saw Joe at the end of May of this year, probably a week or so before he died. He said he was keeping busy. He was concerned about his wife’s health more than his own.
Joe always said great things about his wife, and was extremely proud of his children. He loved his dogs, too.
From what he had told me about his health, he had beaten doctor’s projections by years and years. He was a fighter his whole life.
I hope his family is able to cope with his absense.
Rest in peace, my friend.

I am sure that in one of the many rooms of Joe's heavenly mansion is a room with sixteen DOS Scanners, running at 70 images per minute. The 24x rolls will have 3,000 to 5,000 images each, giving him just enough time to set up a new roll before another one drops. "Hang and bang."
Of course, there's an infinite amount of server space in this ideal scanner room. Only an infinite server could contain Joe A's productivity.
It was an honor to work side-by-side with, as well as supervise, Joe. He was, by far, the most productive worker I've ever seen. He had a passion for scanning.
Joe was also versatile, able to index, bulk print, and run Mekels. He adapted to the changing technologies, tackling and dominating Nextscan and Sunrise NT scanners alike.
He always found a workaround, a feint … a way to get the job done, in a highly acceptable manner.
He never held back his productivity … although, in quiet morning moments, standing on the steps, overlooking the canal in the back of the Tashman offices, smoking a quick cigarette before his shift started, he would apologize for his occasional braggadocios … and THEN proceed to push the boundaries of film, machine, and software, setting new standards to frustrate the 2nd and 3rd shifters.
He delighted in coming in 30 minutes early, and saying something like, "Did you see my numbers?"
That's something his detractors at Tashman never understood; he wasn't all about the numbers. That was surface stuff … if you talked to Joe A., you found a proud family man who had lived a "Joey Bag O' Donuts" Goodfellas-style life in his younger days and learned from the school of hard knocks how to blend in to the world of 7am to 3pm, blazing through his 40 hour work week, keeping his intense spirit alive.
The fire has finally gone out, lasting far longer than was thought possible. Joe, you amazed and set records to the end. Congratulations, and Godspeed. Save me a space in that scanner room.
My condolences to the his wife and the rest of his family. If there's anything I can do, let me know.
I dont know really what to say.
To put it kindly, he was overcompetitve.
I remember one time when I left in the turnover some issues I was having.
Joe was in the hospital getting an operation and was advising me how to solve the problems while he was recovering in a hospital bed from an operation thru email and I thought to myself, for god's sake- take a day off.
I will at least say that he was a character.
what did he die from?
Sorry to hear about joe a.
I'm sorry to hear that
Can't reach his house to find out what happened
Wow.
Oh…
It's sad…he was sick though, right?
That is so sad. I got along with him even though I know some people had issues.
Damian, you saw Joe a week before he died? It is as though Joe came to the office one last time and spoke to everyone there and he was really saying goodbye! I feel so sad..I never met him but you told me so many stories about him. I know you cared about Joe. I hope that you are feeling a little better now.
Thank you Vahl for a wonderful tribute to Joe, he would appreciate that
