The Return of George W Bush (cameo)

Recession? What recession? It cost $1,500 per person to see him speak. Former President Bush spoke in front of “local businessmen”.

“I know it’s going to be the private sector that leads this country out of the current economic times we’re in. You can spend your money better than the government can spend your money.

Government does not create wealth. The major role for the government is to create an environment where people take risks to expand the job rate in the United States.”

On the origin of the Financial Crisis:

“I [was] told, ‘If you do not move strongly, Mr. President, you will be a president overseeing a depression that will ultimately be greater than the Great Depression. I firmly believe it was necessary to put money in our banks to make sure our financial system did not collapse. I did not want there to be bread lines, to be a great depression.

We tried to reform [Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac] but couldn’t get it through the vested interests on Capitol Hill.”

On healthcare:

“There are a lot of ways to remedy the situation without nationalizing health care. I worry about encouraging the government to replace the private sector when it comes to providing insurance for health care.”

On Gitmo:

“The way I decided to address [enemy combatants] was twofold: One, use every technique and tool within the law to bring terrorists to justice before they strike again.

I’ll just tell you that there are people at Gitmo that will kill American people at a drop of a hat and I don’t believe that persuasion isn’t going to work. Therapy isn’t going to cause terrorists to change their mind.”

  1. Comic Book Fan says:

I guess it's safe for him to come out now? No threat of arrest for his war crimes?

  2. Stats Head says:

Why do I get the feeling that he will become a cult icon for right-wingers in upcoming years?

BTW: what the heck is that pic?

  3. Vahl says:

Glad he finally made an appearance.

  4. R.A.W. says:

there is no such thing as the creation of wealth.
everything is redistribution in one form or another.
the economy cant work without a consumer and people like bush and his fans think the economy is built from the top down rather than from the bottom up.

this is why they will always continue to get it wrong.

and once again the real issue of gitmo, that many of the people being held there have done nothing is ignored.

of course, any process designed to separate the innocent from the guilty is characterized as wanting to compromise with terrorists, give them therapy, blah blah blah.

typical talk radio b.s., it all sounds the same.

    predictable and not surprising.

This time around I realized that the raccoon was free from suffering now. It's a shame its life had to end like that- it was blameless; humans built roads in the middle of his ancestor's forest. Progress and technology broke that raccoon's legs and took his life tonight. But now the suffering has ended for it. I mourned the raccoon and the way […]
