W.A.R.: its pretty morbid.i mean its not everyday that a monkey rips a woman to shreds.truthfully i have been kinda in another zone these past few days.but sure enough i put on the tv(before comcast disconnected it) and theres this whole monkey attack story, and im like wow i didnt miss much now did it?
DS: Do you agree with the decision for the police to kill Travis the Chimp?
WR: well the ape attack is pretty sad on every end.i mean what else could they do when there is a monkey attack?
DS: What about smoke bombs?
WR: yeah.yeah.i guess the cops should have used smoke bombs.
DS: Tear gas?
WR: yeah. come to think about it this sounds like the cops shot first and asked questions later.

There was actually at least THREE “news stories” all linked into that one political cartoon.

I almost did a post on this, but Id rather have it just pass under the radar and not draw more attention to it because a a white person I find this embarrassing.
admittedly with all the problems we are going thru as a nation a racist comic strip is no big deal but I gotta agree with sharpton on this one that it is.
whats the first thought that goes thru your mind when you think of a crazy monkey being shot dead by police?
if its Barack Obama, aka “the author of the stimulous bill” then the racial attitudes of the creator of this strip do not go unnoticed by me either.
For the record, I usually try to be on the other side of political correctness, but to compare america’s first black president to a monkey?
and then to pretend like the were not referring to Obama just because they referred to the monkey as the author of the stimulus bill.

I dont believe in censorship, but when Im looking at a guy who when he sees a crazy chimp wants to imply that its Barack Obama, however indirect – you know there was at least one guy in the room who approved of this who saw how easily it could be “misconstrued” but let it go anyway because ethier they thought it was funny or wanted to generate some kind of racial controversy.

and they should not shoot the author of the comic strip first and ask questions later, but they should at least use smoke bombs on him, or maybe some tear gas.

The NY Post is equivalent to….the National Enquirer (trust me on that), but people take them seriously anyway.
They just ran the cartoon for hits and attention.
It was a parody that combined two news stories at once (to answer your question: what does the shot monkey have to do with the bill?)
When I saw the cartoon from your link, I didn’t see Obama on the ground. I just saw a “monkey” who put together a stimulus package that the MEDIA says will do more harm than good, meaning that a “bunch of monkeys” are in Congress.
I think the post understood the racial controversy it would cook up and decided to print it for that very reason while playing dumb like they didnt know it could be read that way.
everybody by now has already seen this cartoon, somebody isnt racist or whatever just because they put it up as a reference, but im pretty sure the post knew what it was doing.
its anything for attention out there for these cheap media outlets.
Im not pointing at anybody except the paper itself because it knew what it was doing.
I dont buy that they didnt see some racial element to the cartoon.
