Were dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark? Christian Wright

Christian Wright Q&A

Q-Were dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark? I mean, how the $#$%@ could Noah have fit those big suckers in a ship?

A- Yup.

Oh, you want more details? Fine. There were only 55 different kinds of dinosaurs, and not all them were huge. You also have to consider that the dinosaurs on the Ark were teenagers or young adults- maybe even eggs. t Noah had 8,000 animal pairs. Horses, zebras, and donkeys descended from ONE horse-like kind, so Noah did not have to carry two sets of each such animal. Also, dogs and wolves are from a single canine kind, so hundreds of different dogs species were not needed.

The Ark measured 460 x 75 x 44 feet, with a volume of about 1.52 million cubic feet. 16,000-plus animals would have occupied much less than half the space in the Ark.

There’s another more progressive theory that the dinosaurs had already died out before Noah’s time.

In order to understand where dinosaur come into the story – where does it say in Genesis that God created the earth on day one? It doesn't.

Genesis 1, V1 (NIV) – "1. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

    2. Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters."

So, the earth pre-existed the story of Genesis – a formless and empty place. I personally believe that the story of Genesis focuses on a region rather than the entire earth. Often, when the Bible refers the 'the earth', it translates better as 'human-kind'.

If we think a little outside of the creation story, we can really let our imagination run away with us. Think of it; an earth story, pre-genesis. The earth could be billions of years old with a fascinating story attached to it.

Why is it not mentioned in the Bible? Well, I think that that part of the story is not for us to worry ourselves about. If a paramedic attends a road traffic accident, is it his part to not only administer first aid, but also vitamin suppliments and advice on healthy eating? Of course not, immediate medical attention only…time critical.

Same with humanity. God has given us a pinch of how He created things on a strictly need to know basis.

Evidence for plenty of 'goings on' before the 7 days can be found in the Bible.

    Ezekiel 28, v14,15:
    14 “ You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God;
You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created,
Till iniquity was found in you. "

So, Satan was established on the holy mountain of God…before he fell? Before Adam and Eve? The story of satans fall is obvisouly a very old one. I wouldn't be surprised if he became full of iniquity billions of years ago; always tampering with God's many creations – corrupting and causing disharmony as he always has done. Laying down death and decade in the very chemical bounds of creation.

Oh well. We may not know much about the past. At least we know how it all ends.

Without getting too deep, I would like to remind any future readers that it is a dangerous thing too add to the Word of God. Whatever happened to taking the Bible for what it says. I have went in circles with gap-theorists before so I know how "ANONYMOUS" would want to respond, but does not Exodus teach us that in six days God created the heaven and the earth and all that is in them? He did not create the earth billions of years ago, he created it in the confines of the same six day period as seen in Genesis one. Before you respond you may want to make sure you understand the correct meaning of "Asa" and "Bara".

Wow…poor Noah!!! After reading the previous post I can't help but think of him in the ark. All this time I always thought that it only rained for 40 days, never did it ever occur to me that it was more likely 40,000 years!!!

  • chris says:

So if you think that A god day was 1,000 years then how long where the nights?, don't plants nedd sunlight to surive? Another thing is that have you read the Babooylean flood story, they are so similiar that it could be consider plagerism in todays world.

You dont have to be a genius to know to put the small animals on the ark

  • chris says:

Well true, but then what kind of animals where they then? Cause if you say that Noah had just a pair of hourses, not everykind of hourse, or a pair of dogs, not wolfs or dingos. Then is Christian Wright saying he bleives in eveloution? Cause if it is true then did that make Noah a Monkey??

  • STUF says:

I don't think one of God's days equal 1000 years. I know that one of God's days is like a 1000 of our years according to the scripture I quoted.

  • Ed says:

Saying one day is like one thousand years, is in no way related to 1=1000. It is a statement relative to the meaninglessness of time to God. Honestly, there is no reason to fight between science and religion on the matter of creation as the 2 version are perfectly matched once the issue of "time relative to man" is removed. Or can anyone on either side of this fence argue that the earth as we know it was created with water and will be destroyed by fire? (With or without the hand of God).

P.S. if you do not believe the earth will be destroyed by fire, ask yourself what will happen when the Star we call a Sun goes Nova?

    Swoosh, Goodbye.

Sometimes stepping back and simply taking Gods word as the litearl translation is key, in order to understand what God says by his word(2 Timothy 3:16-17-"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work") we should all take Gods holy and infallable word to its literal meaning. it says what it says, it means what it means. Everything was created in 6 days and God rested on the 7th, end of story.

You cannot honestly take every thing in the bible literally, especially Genesis, you have to interpet for yourself, to find the meaning in your own way

  • Steve K. says:

Nice discussion, but it seems to have gotten away from the original question onto creation. Let me share some of my 30 yrs. of work and a very small piece of one of my studies.

    In the original Hebrew
    Gen.1:1 Beresheeth bara Elohim aleph-tav ha shamayim v-et ha-aretz

    1. The word "Beresheeth" in the Greek tranlates "In the Beginning" better translation sould be "In the dateless past." Thats when Elohim created the heavens and the Earth. The scriptures do not tell us how long ago the dateless past was.

footnote: Gen.2:4 tells us that these are the generations of the earth and in verse 5 it tells us that this was before there was a man to work the ground, which is what God told Adam to do when He put Adam in the Garden (Gen. 2:15)so the earth had generations before Adam, which means that earth already had a history before verse Gen.1:2

    2. "bara" to create something from nothing, an act only God can do. In Psalms 33:6 say God breathed it into existance.

    3. "Elohim alef-tav" this is the creative name of God and it is plural, an introduction to the trinity, "alef-tav", first and last letters of the Hebrew alphebet, translates "Alpha-Omega" and who said He was the Alpha and the Omega? A hint at who the creator was, agrees with Jn.1:1

    4. "shamayim", the heavens, this is plural also, the three heavens, including God's abode. This also gives us the order of creation, heavens first and then at some future time the earth. Otherwise the angels could not have rejoiced at the creation of the earth (Job 38:4-7). Just because the heavens and the earth are mentioned in the same verse doesnt mean they were created at the same time. We "asume" they were and so we teach it that way.

    5. "ha-aretz", the earth, actually the dry earth.

"Time" as we know it, doesnt begin till verse 2-5 and the acts of God in those verses then become events of Day 1. But God created the earth in v1 and was complete and finished and beatiful from the moment he breathed it into existance. As the prophet Jermiah says in Jer.4:26 it was a "fruitful" place, the original Eden that Lucifer was in before he fell. Ezek.28:13

Hope this helps, and keep studying your Bible.

  • Dave the Rave says:

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the scholarly research. I think you bring into this discussion much more than what the thread has devolved into.

My only issue is using Ezek.28:13. He was a prophet and engaged in some "retroactive continuity". I think you should stick to Genesis itself.

That being said, I thank you so much for making light of the better translations of "In the beginning", which really should say "In the dateless past" (or as we would say now, "time immemorial"). Also, the fact that "history" is literally "generations" is very enlightening as well (The original King James version seems to be much better that than the New King James version.)

"And Jesus said unto them … , "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to younder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you."

    Romans 1:17

  • Paul says:

"bara" does not mean to create something from nothing, it means to organize. So God took of the materials floating in space and made another world.

"Elohim" is plural, but it is not an introduction to the trinity. Bible scholars agree there is no trinitarian doctrine in the Bible. What it means is that there are 3 Gods – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.

The God who created the world, the God of the Old Testament known as Jehovah, and the Creator referred to in John 1:1 is Jesus Christ. And when He speaks in the Old Testament He is acting under the authority of the Father and sometimes even talks as if He is the Father. However, the only time God the Father appears or is heard in the Bible is when he either introduces or bears witness of His Son Jesus Christ.

From the time Adam and Eve were ushered out of the garden until now, the God the Prophets have dealt with is known as the Mediator. It is Christ who reconciles us to God the Father, not some spirit essence that is somehow part of but not part of some mystical trinity.

When Christ rose from the dead He told Mary not to touch Him because He had not yet assended to His Father and her Father, His God and her God. He didn't say He would ascend to part of Himself which was her Father and God.

Christ dwelt with His Father before coming to this earth and was the "firstborn of every creature". Look up every reference to sons of God or father of spirits and learn that you and I are literally the spirit children of God, the Eternal Father. He was literally the firstborn of every creature – the firstborn spirit child of God the Eternal Father. He was not the firstborn on earth.

    Well said Paul.
Pre-existance or pre-earth life where we lived as spirits with our heavanly father.Where a plan was set forth for us to be able to become like god with perfect phisical immortal bodies. This earth life was part of that plan, with all the stu that comes with it, happy, sad, pain, joy, opposition in all things. Dinosours probably had a part in it somewhere too. Personally, I think that they did their bit and had their time before Noah.

  • T David says:

Yes, the Old Testament contains a lot of verifiable historical facts, but it also has a lot of legends and myths, including that of Noah’s Ark. Most areas at one time or another have floods and they seemed to the people at the time to be HUGE floods, even worldwide ones. Many different cultures have flood myths (dating from vastly different times) and it should not be surprising. But this one is based on an earlier flood myth, just like the life of Jesus was based on an earlier myth, too (Mythras), which involved the birth around Dec. 25 of a savior to a virgin, 12 disciples, crucifiction, and yes resurrection. Growing up, I was NEVER told about these things and have learned about many more untruths that we were told not to doubt. Well, folks, doubt them. There’s not more truth to Noah’s Ark than there is to the Easter Bunny.

Very good explanation… However, the Sun will never actually go “nova”. Our sun will only expand and begin burning helium at its core and eventually turn solid and become what is known as a White Dwarf, giving off planetary nebulae… and this will not happen for about another 6 billion years. Only stars not currently on the Main Sequence of stars will go “nova”. It is possible that Earth could be destroyed when the Sun reaches its super giant stage, but it is also possible that the Earth could be destroyed long before then as well.

Concerning the use of the word day:

Day is a period of time. Many have confused “solar day” (24 hours) with “era” (day). “Day” is not restricted by a one revolution of the earth. This is why many old timers still use the expression, “A 24 hour day”. Other common examples: “Back in the Day”, “The Day of the Dinosaur”, or “I worked an 8 hour day”. Does that mean there were only 8 hours during that solar day? No. The mention of the word “Day” in Genesis refers to periods of time or eras, much as is done by Geologists who frequently use terms like “In the Day of the Proterozoic Period” or “Before the Day of the Dinosaur”. You see this used frequently at the Smithsonian and other museums.

These are facts, not opinions and you may verify them easily if you are confused.

  • Mohammed says:

You can play all the word games you like but you it’s getting harder and harder to reconcile what is written in the Bible with twenty-first century science. With every passing day the Bible and modern science (reality) continue to move away from each other. Sadly, too many people start the mental gymnastics and cheap word play to avoid the only real conclusion… the Bible is flawed and outdated, proving that God is a myth, nothing more than a newer version of Zeus, Jupiter, Odin etc. etc.

By the way, the photo is just a rock formation. The arc was made of wood… over the thousands of years it would have decomposed or as scholars have suggested, Noah’s arc would have been scavenged. Think about it. The flood has just subsided, there are no usable trees, why not just break apart the arc and build with all of that ready to use lumber. In reality, Noah’s will never be found… because it never existed. It’s just a myth stolen from even older flood myths.

  • Common Sense says:

Are you people seriously considering that it was feasible to put a pair of every known species on a boat and have them repopulate the entire planet… And who could honestly think that dinosaurs really existed at the same time as humans and today’s common mammals? What are you people smoking?
