Usain Bolt: The Fastest Man Alive

9.69 seconds 100-meter Olympic gold medal.
Congratulations, Usain Bolt.
“I told you all I was going to be No. 1,” Bolt said, “and I did just that.”
A lot critics attacked Bolt because he only began competing in the dash 13 months ago, how he would hold up in the four-round format at the Olympics, and how he’d fair against Powell and reigning Tyson Gay.

Thanks for giving props to the Lightning Bolt!
G. and I were both thrilled to see HOW he won that race. I loved it that he was so in control that he pounded his chest and smiled BEFORE finishing the race.

Of course, the color-commentator/former racer criticized him: “He just threw away 9.59. I know it’s a world record, but….”
SO LAME!!!!
I wanted to write a scenario where Bolt was coached by Willie Randolph, and he got lectured the way Lastings Milledge was for showing joy after hitting a home run.

The thing G. noticed was that the other Jamaican racer was the former world record holder was taking things TOO seriously, and he ended up fifth. Serious = nerves.
Bolt was posing, doing funny moves, etc. prior to the race (Another type Seven?). He had the same attitude prior and after the race — nonchalant, loose, relaxed, HAVING FUN!
Dix, the American who finished 3rd, was similarly relaxed, but not as showy. He was more Jeter-like, if you know what I mean. No one expected him as high as 3rd.

Slightly off-topic: I wonder if age and the SERIOUSNESS of winning a championship is KILLING the Yanks.
I think being too SERIOUS about winning kills the clutch factor. It’s sad, really.
Vahl,
I agree with you on Bolt being unfairly criticized for “losing time”. You hit it right on the nail.
Regarding the New Choke Yankees not being relaxed and being too serious- yes, I agree wholeheartedly. I stare at their bench every night, and it looks like they are waiting for a root canal. Girardi is not the guy to lighten the mood, either.
