Justin Chamberlain: Reverend, what do you think about California legalizing GAY MARRIAGE?
Christian Wright: It’s an abomination, to start. The Catholic Church takes a very high view of marriage and what proper sexuality is. As the account of Genesis shows, marriage and sexuality were created by God and given to mankind as gifts for our benefit- for a man and a woman in holy union, not a MAN and a MAN or a WOMAN and a WOMAN or a MAN and a HORSE. As I’m sure you know, scripture records God’s statement that “it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him” [Gen. 2:18]. Thus, “a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they become one flesh” [Gen. 2:24]. Of course, some- like myself- may forego the good of marriage to serve a higher calling [cf. Matt. 19:10-12].
Justin, marriage is a conduit through which God’s holy and good grace flows to the couple and their children, and their children’s children. The Catholic Church understands marriage between a baptized man and woman to be a sacrament, and is a visible sign of the grace that God gives them to help them join Him in eternity. For Catholics, marriage is social as well as religious. The Bible compares the relationship between MAN and WIFE to that between God and Israel [cf. Hos. 9:1] and between Christ and his Church[(cf. Eph. 5:21-32].
Marriage is basic to the health of society, and therefore a public institution that must be protected. Marriage is not just a private matter of emotion between two people, no matter what these gays say on TV with their rainbow flags. Marriage’s success or failure has measurable impact on all of society, and we can’t have gay people marrying each other.
The Catholic Church opposes this sinful activity because it is disordered, is an abuse of our human nature, and legalizing same-sex marriage spreads these harmful effects on society.
The Devil runs California now, Justin. It is best that you do not venture there. Pray for them, Justin. God’s fury hath no equal. We can never know God’s plan, but we do know that earthquakes are common in California.

Before I get flamed, I want to say I believe gay marriage is a state issue, and no longer solely a exclusively religious tradition.
In other words, I have no problems with gay marriage in California.
It is amusing that some people fulminate about so-called activist judges, and yet when judges in California legalize gay marriage by a strict reading of the Constitution, conservatives rush to get a referendum on the ballot for November that would restrict marriage to a man and a woman.
Food for thought: a mere forty one years ago, the marriage of Senator Obama’s parents would not have been recognized in sixteen states, because there were strict laws against a mixed race marriage…until some gosh-darned activist judges ruled that law unconstitutional.
When are those who are busy minding other peoples’ business going to tumble to the fact that any two people who wish to marry are the same race–the human race–whether they have different skin or like gender? There cannot be different grades of equality. Marriage, which once was something strictly arranged by parents, typically for financial gain, is in a constantly state of change and gay marriage is simply the next logical step in its evolution…presuming that critics of gay marriage believe in evolution.
Christian Wright, you are a backwards idiot. There is a strong (if not necessarily 1:1) correlation between critics of gay marriage and people who deny evolution.

The people that balk at gay marriage today, saying it will spell doom for society, are the spiritual descendants of the kind of people that used to say racial miscegenation would spell doom for society a few decades ago.
Let’s hope that a few decades from now their homophobic views will be in the same garbage can of history as separate restaurants for black and white people.

how much energy needs to be wasted on ensuring that marriage is restricted to a certain type of couple? How much more would our country’s politicians accomplish if they had better things to do than fight the good fight on behalf of discrimination?
What discourages me is that Democrats continue to revere Bill Clinton, who advocated and signed into law the Defense of Marriage Act (supported, dishearteningly, by many Democrats, including such “luminaries” as Tom Dascle, Joe Biden, Robert Byrd, etc.)
You’d expect that kind of closed-minded thinking from Republicans, but from Democrats, it was sheer political cowardice. I’m not entirely sure which is worse.
I guess we might as well legalize incestuous marriages and marriage with animals, David.
uhmm..I’ve yet to see functional, well-adjusted, incestuous couples… the same can be said for any other bizarre behavior that some people will usually mention to disprove gay rights (The ‘what is next? Women marrying dogs?!?!’ argument).
I think the incest argument doesn’t work, since a heterosexual brother and a heterosexual sister can still get heterosexually married–just not to each other. But two homosexual men or two homosexual women haven’t been allowed to get married at all, whether they’re related or not.
one of the best things about allowing gays to marry each other is that it would hopefully help reduce the number of disastrous marriages that happen when a gay person feels obligated to try to make a marriage to the opposite sex work. Why would anyone want to encourage that that kind of train wreck?

Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, Malay and red, and He placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with His arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that He separated the races shows that He did not intend for the races to mix.

Who cares whether Jack marries Jill or John? Or whether Jill marries Jack or Judy? And who cares about their respective skin color or nationality or religion, or any such thing?
What I will repeat is my suggested solution to the whole problem: make EVERY marriage a “civil union” in a legal sense, and let those people who want recognition of a church deal with whatever religious organization they like.
Actually, in a legal sense, every marriage is a “civil union”; you don’t have to get your marriage solemnized by any religious organization at all. (I got married in a courthouse.)
I am looking forward to the first time someone gets married in California or Massachusetts, then goes to their home in Nebraska or Oklahoma and sues to overturn the “Defense” of Marriage Act as being in violation of Article IV of the Constitution (a contract executed in any state must be recognized in all states).
I’m a huge supporter of gay marriage, and I’m amazed at most of the arguments against it. First, they’re almost the same as the arguments against every expansion of marriage (such as interfaith marriages or interracial marriages): It’ll cheapen the meaning for everyone else, the institution will survive, yadda yadda yadda. Second, they almost always set up straw men to argue against, mainly that then we’ll have to allow for incestous marriages and bestial marriages (when, since most people seeking gay marriage want the same rights as straight marriages, it’s not a universal and doesn’t encompass them). Third is the idea that marriage can’t ever change — when it’s changed significantly, from the introduction of divorce (which, while painful, can let two people avoid a lifetime of misery shackled to each other) to the idea that women could select their partners (as opposed to the political marriages a few centuries ago) to even the adjustment of laws that prevented a man from being accused of raping his wife because he was assumed to have “full access” to her. Marriage changes, it evolves, it works great for some and poorly for others — and expanding it to include all people who want to commit to each other’s lives can only strengthen the institution, not weaken it.
OKAY, REAL SIMPLE FOLKS…A MAN AND A MAN AND A WOMAN AND A WOMAN CAN’T REPRODUCE. IT IS AGAINST NATURE. I DON’T WANT TO PAY TAXES TO PAY FOR A WEDDING BETWEEN TWO GAYLORDS. THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE THE SAME BENEFITS- LIKE SOCIAL SECURITY AND ESTATES. IT IS AGAINST EVERY RELIGION IN THE WORLD, EXCEPT SATANISM. (I WONDER WHY?)

I’m fully in support of gay marriage, as I see no reason to allow this inequality to continue. I’ve never bought the whole ‘marriage is religious’ argument, seeing as how a church had nothing to do with my marriage. Nor do I buy any of the other arguments about how it will lead to this or that, or that it will hurt children, not when so many hetero marriages already end in divorce.
Who knows, maybe gays will treat the concept and sanctity of marriage better than straight people have?

In Romans 5 Paul admonishes us that even if we (Christians) approve of immoral behavior, we are just as guilty as those who practice it.
If the liberals continue to lead the United States into forcing the citizenry to accept and approve of behavior that God has declared to be immoral, how will that fare for our country. I believe this liberal bent to force us (especially the Christians) to accept tolerance for immorality such as gay marriage, abortion, infanticide, fetal stem cell research, and so on is designed by only one motivation – to totally eradicate the peace-loving, love filled message of the Gospel, to crucify over and over our Lord and Savior.
I agree..this nation was founded on faith in God. Yet the liberals want us to accept only that which is immoral. Perhaps it will come that the fires of 9-11 were a warning from God that He can allow bigger fires to come and destroy the United States. Our coinage and currency state “In God We Trust”, yet the majority of our nation seems to believe we should be tolerant of immoral behavior.
We should not tolerate immorality in any form. We should not hate those who behave in immoral ways, but we should hate what they do. “Love the sinner, hate the sin” our Lord told us.
When all logic fails, quote the Bible.
I find these rants to be increasingly apocalyptic and unhinged. There are several countries in the world that have legalized same-sex marriage, and nothing bad has happened to them. Can ANYONE tell me how having 2 men married effects their lives in any significant way?

SO WHAT? YOU LIST THOSE COUNTRIES LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE OKAY OR SOMETHING? Of those countries that have legalized same sex marriage, if you do any research on those countries, you will find that the divorce rate is just as high and there is much confusion about who gets what, where and when.
Additionally those countries say that they are sorry and have made a big mistake in legalizing same sex marriages.
Having 2 men married affects all of our lives. Gay/lesbian people have a higher rate of disease therefore the cost of health care rises. That’s just for starters and it’s the same with women.
The rants I get tired of hearing is how gay marriage won’t effect. It does and it will and will get worse. Look at ENDA. That is in the middle of all this nonsense. Can you truly tell me that gays do not have the same rights as anyone else and be truthful about it? Yes they do. It’s not about rights at all but about “special rights”. There is no scientific proof that gays are “born that way”, another rant I get tired of hearing. Being gay is a choice.
What happens is a small thread of truth is surrounded by lies. When those lies are repeated with their small truths in it, and repeated often enough the people’s resistance and their tolerance is lowered. Enough people are doing it so it must be alright – WRONG!
Do you have any articles to backup your claims? I have been doing research and what I have found is United States has the highest divorce rate in the western world. The state with the lowest divorce is Massachusetts.
ou say being gay is a choice. So they choose to be gay, have gay sex and relationships, etc. Why can’t they choose who they marry? Why shouldn’t we all have that choice? Because it offends you?
Gay people have been around for ages and have lived together as normal couples. They have long term relationships, buy houses together and all the other stuff heterosexual couples do. This has been going on for a while now and society hasn’t crumbled. Why would a simple marriage certificate change that? The essence of marriage is a long term commitment, both emotional and contractual, between two people.
Take this example:
Say a hetero couple decides not to get married and they buy a house together, combine their money, have kids and do all the things that a normal married couple will do. If this couple breaks up, they still fight over the house and who gets to live in it, they still have to separate the property hey bought together and they still have to deal with custody and child support, the same as a married couple. Granted their are minor differences with married people, but for the most part it can be the same.
So if a gay couple decides to have a long term relationship and do those things married people do, then they will experience the same contractual agreement, for the most part, that married people do. My point is, these long-term homosexual couples are pretty much married, they just don’t have that little piece of paper and the benefits (insurance, tax breaks, etc.) that go with it.
So the emotional aspect and contractual aspect associated with marriage is already present among gay couples. Despite this, our society has not crumbled. So why not let them have that piece of paper?
We, as a civilization are to be fruitful and multiply. Gays cannot be fruitful and multiply.
In Denmark a pastor was put in jail because he was reading from the Bible about homosexuality. It has happened 3 different times in Canada. What’s next?

look at the coverage when an Alabama judge wants to put the Ten Commandments in a courthouse. All the stories dwelled on the fact that he was breaking the law, that there had been orders telling him not to. Yet, when Mayor Gavin Newsom decides that he can just change the marriage laws, we don’t talk about the fact that he’s breaking state law, as much as he’s decided it is against the equal rights clause, so that’s the way he’s going to do it.
I think the other thing is, we have a tendency to report as if all gays want marriage, which isn’t necessarily true.
A 46 year old music store owner from the St. Louis area, Elliot Sanders, is claiming that while a college student at Southeast Missouri University in 1971, he had an affair with Rush Limbaugh. Sanders claims that he and Limbaugh, the well known talk radio star, had an affair that went on for about 3 months in the fall of 1971…
Sanders stated that he met Limbaugh in a class he was taking, but it was only after meeting his sister, who was openly gay at that time, that he found out Rush himself was gay. “Rush was a charming man privately,” says Sanders, “I met him in a class I was taking, and got on a first name basis with him. I didn’t realize he was gay until his sister came to visit him. She was gay, and like, we hit it off, and she seemed shocked that I didn’t know Rush was gay as well. When I found out I was like … wow!”
Sanders says that privately, Limbaugh was very sensitive and caring man, but that he was furiously angry that KFBK, the top 40 radio station he worked while still in high school would not offer him a full time job.
“He was furious about that,” said Sanders, “And he often told me that he was really going to show them.” According to Sanders, Rush’s politics at the time were somewhat middle of the road. “Rush said that he though most people are incredibly gullible, and he felt that the key to radio programming was to reach that crowd, and that it would be really, really easy. He thought he thought he could get anyone to believe anything he said, and the more outrageous is was, the more they would believe it.”
When asked when he thought Limbaugh “went straight,” Sanders replied, “What are you talking about? I mean, he’s been married four times now, do people really not get why he doesn’t stay married? I guarantee none of those marriages was ever consummated.”
Sanders would not divulge any further details, but when asked if he feared retaliation from Limbaugh for his revelations, he stated, “No, Rush wouldn’t do that, he’s really a sweetie at heart, but some of the people who listen to him might. I think most of them are psychotic. I don’t think these people realize he’s just pandering to them for ratings, but if they find out, I wouldn’t want to be there.”

In the Bible there are no popes or priests to rule over the church. Jesus Christ is our High Priest (Heb. 3:1; 4:14-15; 5:5; 8:1; 9:11)
The Roman papacy and priesthood is just a huge fraud to keep members in bondage to a corrupt pagan church.
The Worship of Mary
Roman Catholics believe that Mary, the mother of Jesus, remained a virgin after the birth of Jesus and was sinless all of her life. She is worshiped in the Catholic church as the “Mother of God” and the “Queen of Heaven.” St. Bernard stated that she was crowned “Queen of Heaven” by God the Father, and that she currently sits upon a throne in Heaven making intercession for Christians.
The Bible teaches otherwise. In the Bible, Mary was a sinner just like the rest of us. She said herself that she needed a “Saviour” (Lk. 1:47), and she even had to offer a sacrifice for her sins in Luke 2:24. Jesus was only her “firstborn” son, according to Matthew 1:25, because she later had other children as well (Mt. 13:55; Gal. 1:19; Psa. 69:8). There’s only ONE mediator between God and men, and it isn’t Mary (I Tim. 2:5). God also says that we shall worship only ONE GOD. That is the God of all heaven and earth, our Creator. It is against God’s word to worship Mary or anyone else besides God the Father.
The Catholic Church teaches that a Christian’s soul must burn in purgatory after death until all of their sins have been purged. To speed up the purging process, money may be paid to a priest so he can pray and have special masses for an earlier release.
This heresy began creeping into the Roman Church during the reign of Pope Gregory around the end of the sixth century, and it has no scriptural support. In fact, Jesus warned us about this pagan practice in Matthew 23:14 when He spoke of those who devoured widows houses and made long prayers for a pretence. Psalm 49:6-7 tells us that a person couldn’t redeem a loved one, even if such a place did exist: “They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:”
Peter addresses this issue in Acts 8:20 when he says, “Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.” God’s word is clearly against the doctrine of purgatory.
By perverting the Christian practice of the Lord’s Supper (Mat. 26:26-28; I Cor. 11:23-27), the Catholic Church has created the Mass, which they believe to be a continual sacrifice of Jesus Christ:
“Christ…commanded that his bloody sacrifice on the Cross should be daily renewed by an unbloody sacrifice of his body and blood in the Mass under the simple elements of bread and wine.” (The Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. 10, Pg. 13, Article: “Mass, Sacrifice of”)
Jesus never made such a command. If you’ll check the above references in Matthew 26 and I Corinthians 11, you’ll see for yourself that the Lord’s Supper is a MEMORIAL and a SHOWING of Christ’s death until He comes again. It is not a sacrifice. The Catholic Encyclopedia states the following:
“In the celebration of the Holy Mass, the bread and wine are changed into the body and blood of Christ. It is called transubstantiation, for in the Sacrament of the Eucharist the substance of bread and wine do not remain, but the entire substance of bread is changed into the body of Christ, and the entire substance of wine is changed into his blood, the species or outward semblence of bread and wine alone remaining.” (Vol. 4, pg. 277, Article: “Consecration”)
The Catholic Church teaches that the “Holy Mass” is a LITERAL EATING AND DRINKING OF THE LITERAL FLESH AND BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST. The priest supposedly has the power to change the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ.
Now, what does God’s word say about such practices? If you’ll read Genesis 9:4, Leviticus 17:11-12, and Acts 15:29, you will find that God absolutely FORBIDS the drinking of blood all through the Bible.
Rome teaches that the Mass is a continual “sacrifice” of Jesus Christ, but God’s word states that Jesus made the FINAL sacrifice on Calvary! This is made perfectly clear in Hebrews 10:10-12:
“By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.”
The mass is unnecessary and unscriptural.
Image Worship
The Catholic religion is filled with all sorts of symbols, images, and relics. The Catechism of the Council of Trent states these words:
“It is lawful to have images in the Church, and to give honor and worship unto them…”
It’s lawful to honor and worship images? Not according to God’s word. Exodus 20:4-5 says, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.” Image worship is unscriptural and will end with the eternal damnation of those who practice it (Rev. 14:11).
Salvation by Works
Through infant baptism, keeping sacraments, church membership, going to mass, praying to Mary, and confession (just to mention a few), the Catholic church has developed a system of salvation through WORKS. God’s word says that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not through works:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Eph. 2:8-9)
“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” (Romans 4:5)
Jesus Christ came into this world to lay down His sinless life for YOU–to pay for your sins, because you couldn’t. Jesus is your only hope for salvation. Only by receiving Him as your Saviour can you enter the gates of Heaven. There is no other way.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” (John 14:6)
The Lord Jesus Christ has come and PAID for your sins by shedding His own Blood on Calvary. By receiving Him as your Saviour, you can be WASHED from all your sins in His precious Blood (Rev. 1:5; Col. 1:14; Acts 20:28; I Pet. 1:18-19). Notice these important words from Romans 5:8-9:
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
Jesus PAID your way to Heaven for you! By receiving Him as your Saviour, you will be receiving God’s ONLY means of Salvation for you. Are you willing to forsake YOUR righteousness and receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour, your ONLY HOPE for Salvation? Romans 10:13 says, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:9 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Are you willing to forsake your own righteousness, and trust Jesus Christ alone? He will save you just as He promised. Why not receive Him today and trust Him to give you a better way of life?
