The U.S. Iran War
(CBS) A second American aircraft carrier steamed into the Persian Gulf on Tuesday as the Pentagon ordered military commanders to develop new options for attacking Iran. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports that the planning is being driven by what one officer called the “increasingly hostile role” Iran is playing in Iraq – smuggling weapons into Iraq for use against American troops.“What the Iranians are doing is killing American servicemen and -women inside Iraq,” said Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.
It seems as if the military, Bush administration, and John McCain want to distract us from domestic issues by getting involved in overseas wars.
The seeds have been planted for an Iranian war. Some say this conflict has been going on since the 1970’s. Others trace it back hundreds of years. Regardless, as long as long as Republicans are in power, a head-to-head conflict seems inevitable. Perhaps the U.S. would perform air strikes and bombings against nuclear facilities or terrorist training camps. Either way, it would only further strain relations between the U.S., Israel, and Britain versus the Middle East, and even Russia and China.
In other words, if the U.S. declares war on Iran, the world could be plunged into World War III.
That’s why the U.S. needs an administration that should stop threatening and actually try and negotiate, and try to get world wide support from other Middle Eastern countries, and have them share the responsibility of keeping Iran in check.
